Moving to a new place often has the effect of unsettling people — a change in scenery, routine, and overall existence can be unnerving even if it is a wanted change.
Brianna Byrne has no such problems settling into Mystic Falls.
In fact, it is almost more unsettling how easy it is for her to become comfortable in her new environment.
Perhaps, it has to do with the friends the dirty blonde has already made.
Younger than her by several years but uncaring of this fact, Caroline Forbes, Bonnie Bennett, and Elena Gilbert have quickly become the woman's friends and have helped her settle into the small town.It doesn't matter that she's older than the trio because she is a breath of fresh air in the once stagnant air of Mystic Falls life to the girls.
Caroline had told her all about the town, the residents, notable events, and the latest gossip.
Bonnie had shown her around the town, giving recommendations of where and when to visit all the while.
Elena had introduced her to her brother and aunt, Jeremy Gilbert and Jenna Sommers, during a visit to the Mystic Grill. All in all, the days following the Founders' Party were filled with bonding and blossoming friendships.
This all leads up to Brianna's much anticipated first day of working at Mystic Falls High School.
The three girls and the young woman are excited about this experience — especially since they use this to distract from the issues they want to ignore and forget about.
With gaps in her memory from Damon Salvatore's compulsion, and light marks marring the skin of her neck and shoulders from bite marks, the Forbes girl is deadset on ignoring the strangeness of the situation.
Sheila Bennett, Bonnie's grams, has been telling the teen that she's a witch. At first, Bonnie thought the idea absurd, but she can't help admitting to herself that strange things have been happening around her — such as the feelings of darkness and death, and darkness and death shrouded in a blanket of light and life from when she touched Stefan Salvatore and Brianna Byrne respectively.
Elena hasn't heard from or spoken to Stefan, her sort-of boyfriend, in days; and while she refuses to let it bother her too much, it still irks her.
Especially after receiving an extremely vague message of "Hi, um, Elena, I, um, have something I have to do. I'll, uh, explain in a few days".
Brianna Byrne cannot ignore or avoid her issues as her friends do.
The dull whispers are a permanent fixture in her mind. Neverending streams of information are constantly trickling through a dam wall only she has access to, but no control over. Nonsensical mutterings are a fixed feature in her head — only the names of those on a path of death are easily discernible from within the mess of murmurs.
