Unfortunately, all good things had to end at some point. Not necessarily a permanent end, but still. Mereoleona's vacation wasn't forever (unfortunately) and she had to go back to the capital soon enough. She really would have liked to stay longer with Y/N, just doing whatever they wanted (mostly each other) and enjoying her free time. Mereo was almost sure that she had never taken such a long actual break from training and her responsibilities before.

Still, it was over way too quickly and she knew she'd have to leave Y/N here in her forest while she was off in the capital to take care of all the things she never wanted to take care of in the first place. Mereo was sure that Fueggy would have a good laugh if he could see her right now. He was always the one that had held the Magic Knights in the highest possible esteem, that didn't see any problem with them whatsoever. He adored them, he idolised them.

Mereoleona was different that way. She had been planning to join the Knights, mostly because it was just the thing that everyone did, but then she had this big massive fight with Fueggy, because he was so obsessed with the Knights and Mereo just wasn't and then she decided just not to join. And honestly, she had been happy with her choice. But now - lo and behold - she had become a Magic Knight anyway. It was honestly ridiculous that this was how she joined. Damn Fuegoleon. Why did he have to get injured so badly? Stupid. It was stupid of him.

But complaining wasn't going to help her right now. She had to go back whether she liked it or not. For a short while she had thought about bringing Y/N with her, but that seemed like way too much hassle and like it would draw a lot of attention to her and Mereo really wanted to avoid that if she could. She didn't like having attention drawn to her and she was pretty sure that Y/N wouldn't be a fan of it, either. Although... well, she was always good for a surprise. Sometimes Mereo thought she would have probably been better off as a fire spirit or something.

Still, it really sucked that they had to separate for a while at least, especially now that her and Y/N had gotten closer... well, they were definitely a thing now. There went Mereo's claim that she didn't do relationships. Now she was in one and she wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Funny how those things changed. Right now she was everything that she never really wanted to be - needed in the capital, a Magic Knight Captain and in a relationship. Funny how things changed indeed.

She had already told Y/N about having to leave this time - way in advance actually. She didn't seem to be taking it too badly. She had just asked her to leave some clothes, kind of like a thing that would make her think of Mereo or something. Mereo didn't mind at all. She liked seeing Y/N in her shirts - especially because they were kind of too big on her. She looked adorable in them, especially when she was trying to make a serious point, but the arms of Mereo's shirt (way, way too long) would be flopping back and forth all over the place as Y/N was gesturing.

She'd miss her so much. Mereo couldn't even imagine what it would be like to fall asleep without Y/N in her arms. Waking up without her, too. Spending entire days, entire weeks without her. She had no idea when she'd be able to get back here, if she was honest. She had told Y/N as much, but she didn't seem too bothered. Sure, she had all the time in the world. She wouldn't die of any natural causes, but Mereo didn't have that much time to live her life.

But she'd see how things went when she was back in the capital. Maybe Fueggy would be doing better. Maybe they would find someone else that could take over for her. Maybe she'd be able to take another vacation soon enough. They could work it all out somehow, Mereoleona was sure of that. At some point they'd find a good way to spend as much time together as they wanted without having to neglect any other responsibilities. It would all work out in the end. Things always worked out in the end, didn't they? For Mereo they usually had... but she also had a lot of money and came from a wealthy family, so maybe she was biassed here.

"Are you already finished packing?" Y/N asked her, as she got out of her lake. She had been taking a bath or soaking or whatever she was doing in the water all the time, while Mereo had been packing up her things. Mereo wanted to leave the hammock here, so Y/N would have some sort of a guarantee that she'd be back, but Y/N had told her not to be stupid and to just take it with her.

"Yeah, pretty much. I should probably get going soon, so I can get a little bit of sleep before I have to get up early for work again. Honestly, being a Magic Knights Captain is much more work than I expected it to be." Mereo said with a sigh. She knew that Fueggy was probably overdoing it with his responsibilities, but she still wanted to keep things in order for him. It was the least she owed him.

"You know you probably don't have to do as much as you're doing, right?" Y/N replied with a chuckle. She seemed to be pretty sure that only Fueggy took his position so seriously and that most of the other Magic Knights Captains were much more relaxed about their responsibilities than he was. And for some of them Mereo could definitely agree. She knew for a fact that Yami Sukehiro, the captain of the Black Bulls, was doing as little as he could possibly get away with. Still, Mereo wanted to at least keep up some sort of standard. After all she had been made responsible for all these Magic Knights, so she should take it seriously, too.

"I know, I know. Still... I don't want my brother to wake up from his coma just to see everything in shambles. He'd go right back to a coma if that was to happen." Mereo answered. Y/N smiled at her and got on her toes to give her a quick kiss. Mereo was once again fascinated by how small and petite she was - she could have just picked Y/N up and carried her around as if she weighed nothing at all. Y/N was literally absolutely tiny and it was adorable.

"Right. I get it. Just don't overwork yourself, okay? You still gotta make it back here somehow, some day, okay?" Y/N told her. Mereoleona nodded and ruffled her hair gently. She hoped she'd make it back to her soon. If not... well, she had no idea. If it took too long she might just quit everything and head back here. Or she could see if she could somehow manage to get Y/N to the capital then. But that was something they'd have to think about another day.

"Alright. I promise. I'll try my best to get back to you as soon as possible, okay? And no matter how long it takes, I'm not forgetting about you. Okay?" Mereo tried to reassure Y/N. She just nodded and smiled. It was a smug little grin and it made Mereo hesitate for a second. Was she planning something? No. No, no, no. She wouldn't. She wouldn't even think of it.

"Of course. Don't worry too much about making it back quickly. I'll be fine. I've spent centuries alone, I'll be okay for a few weeks. So don't worry. Just take care of yourself." Y/N said.

"I will. I love you. And I'll see you soon, okay?" Mereo told her, pulling her in for another long kiss. She really had to go now, though. If they stayed like this for much longer, Mereo would never manage to leave.

"Love you, too. And I'll see you soon, too." Y/N answered, again with that slightly suspicious grin. Mereo figured that she was just imagining things, as she got on her broom and floated up into the air. Y/N was watching her float higher and higher and was waving. Mereo waved back at her, before she flew in the direction of the capital. Her heart started to hurt as soon as she took her eyes off of Y/N. Those were going to be a tough few weeks...
