T A L I A

"Shit!"

I quickly bent down to pick up the glass that I had just knocked over. "Are you okay?" Elisha asked as she came over to help me with the pieces of glass. I nodded slowly and threw the glass pieces into the trash can. My birthday was in a few weeks, and I hadn't told anybody except Evangelia.

Usually, someone's birthday is supposed to be the happiest day of their life, since it comes only once a year. The first time Christopher laid a hand on me was on my birthday, and I've hated my birthday ever since. I've been wanting to tell Elisha and Char, but I was nervous-nervous they might make it a big deal, or worse, tell everyone.

But they were my friends, my best friends.

"I'm just nervous," I stated.

"Nervous about what?" Char chimed in and sat at the bar while Elisha washed her hands.

I took the seat next to her and huffed. I placed my elbows on the counter and used them to hold me up. "My birthday is in three weeks," I muttered.

I peered up at Elisha and Char, who were currently gasping and smiling extremely hard.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Why didn't you tell us sooner? We have to celebrate," Elisha said, and Char agreed.

"I'm not celebrating, it's not that big of a deal," I said, and they shot glares at me right after.

"Does Eva know? I'm pretty sure she's planning as we speak, just knowing her," Char laughed, and so did Elisha.

I shrugged. "I told her also, it's not that big of a deal. I don't feel like celebrating, so please respect my wishes." I left the room.

I sat on the top of my roof, looking at the stars and how peaceful it looked at nighttime.

I'd been sitting here for about an hour now, and all I'd been thinking about was how I went about things earlier at the club. I felt horrible about how I let out my anger and sadness on the two people I care about the most, the two people who care about me.

I hadn't been up here in a while; I hadn't even heard that voice in my head.

I guess that's a way of showing that life is going good; I'm happy-I'm not that sad anymore.

This past month has been the best days of my life; I've never had this much fun since college, and that speaks volumes. Two more months left. Two more months without the devil himself.

I heaved a sigh and replayed the song over again, swaying my feet as I stared at the ground below; it felt like I was on top of the world-and I was.

I turned up the volume to the max and began to swing my head slowly and closed my eyes with the music, to match the bass.

"Someone's enjoying themselves," I opened my eyes and averted them to Elisha.

I took off my headphones, and Char paused the music for me. "Forgive us, gift?" Char smiled, showing a jar of olives. I love olives.

I smiled and took the jar of olives but I sat it down and turned to them both.

"I should be the one apologizing; I'm sorry for taking my anger out on you two," I said.

Char rolled her eyes. "It's okay, we understand you don't want to go all out for your birthday," she said, and Elisha also agreed.

I chewed the inside of my mouth. "Maybe we can have a little party, not so big. Maybe like a dinner? Or something, nothing major,"

"Thank the gods," Char exclaimed, and Elisha's eyes lit up, and we all laughed.

Nothing major.

"I think it's better to have it at your house, Eva

"I think it's better to have it at your house, Eva. Since you live in a mansion and all," Char said as we sat at the table eating our salads.

I rolled my eyes and took a huge portion of my lettuce, shoving it into my mouth aggressively.

"This is not how I wanted to spend my lunch break," I exclaimed, wiping my mouth.

I crossed my arms over my chest and leaned back into my chair. "Babe, can you please be a little excited for your birthday? It's in a few weeks,"

I sigh. "Fine."

Eva smiled, and we finished up our lunch until our break was over, and we had to head back to work. Today wasn't that busy, but we still had a few customers at the bar.

I hadn't seen James since the sleepover thing we had a few weeks ago. I was still happy at the fact I had finally convinced him to do something, since the man is very hard to please.

"Add another ice," I said to Elisha as she made James's drink. She frowned and then added the other ice. "I'll tell you later," I yelled as I ran up the ramp and then the stairs.

I opened the door to his office, finding no one there. I shrugged and placed the drink onto his glass tray, then decided to walk around the room.

For a man so busy, he definitely kept everything organized; this place was squeaky clean, nothing out of place. I sat at his desk as I rearranged things, just to piss the man off. The drawers were empty, but not the one on the right side of me. I took out a picture frame with a family photo in it.

It was two boys and a woman and man. Then it hit me. This was James and Ace. Ace looked the same, while James looked completely different. He was smiling in this picture, also was Ace. James had the same smile. Gosh, his mother was beautiful. She had long brunette hair, her skin was tan, she had the same eyes as Ace and two dimples at the side of her cheeks. Now I see where they both got their dimples.

My eyes averted to the man in the picture, whom I was guessing is their father. He was tall, as tall as James; he had gray eyes and light brown hair, and James resembled him a lot more.

They looked like the perfect family.

"And tell me exactly the reason you are in my office," I jumped and peered up, seeing James with his arms crossed against his chest, using the wall to hold himself up.

I placed the picture back into the drawer and smiled. "You weren't here, and I had brought you your drink, with three ice cubes," I stood.

I walked over to him, and he uncrossed his arms. I handed him the drink, and he took it. He didn't drink it; all he did was stare at me.

A small smirk appeared on his plump lips, and a chuckle escaped from his chest. "I think I'll pass," he leaned in and whispered. I jumped once he let go of the glass, and it shattered.

He walked over to his desk and eyed it. I moved away from the sharp glass and licked my now-dry lips. "Don't come near my desk unless you're willing to give me a fucking blowjob under it," he hissed, his tone laced with venom.

I was taken aback by his words. Did I do something wrong? Why was he acting like this?

"What's your problem?" I asked softly.

He rolled his eyes and huffed. "My problem is, you're getting too fucking comfortable, and people don't get comfortable with me. The door is behind you; please leave," he said as he went through the door by his desk and slammed it shut.

And then he was gone.
