When Luna and Lily came rushing into the potion's class at ten that morning, they found that a lot of students had already arrived. Luckily though, the two girls noticed that they were there before the professor.
The two girls peered around the room, finding that there were no desks empty that had two seats. Lily leant over to Luna, clutching her bag of books in her arms.
"We'll have to split up for this class. Sorry Lu."
Luna smiled and patted Lily on the shoulder, "Don't worry about it, Lily! I'll sit with Cho. She's alone."Before Lily could say anything in return, Luna had walked over and plopped down in one of the spare seats next to Cho. Lily's eyes scanned the room and found that there was only one seat left open. Luckily it was right next to Harry.
Skipping over, Lily plopped her books down on the table in front of her brother which snapped the boy out of his daydreaming.
"Oh. Hello Lily," the boy said, startled at her arrival.
Lily beamed and sat down before grabbing her potions book, "Did you sleep in or something this morning?"
Harry shook his head, "Let's just say, Ron and my brains combined without a map are completely hopeless."
Lily chuckled, trying to hold it back with her hand but several students heard her and looked in her direction. Lily felt her face flush at all the sudden attention and grabbing her potions book, she buried her face behind it. However, a pair of stormy grey eyes noticed that the girl was so flustered that she hadn't noticed that she was holding her potions book upside down and Draco had a hard time not chuckling.Suddenly, the door of the classroom burst open and in strode a tall man dressed all in black with long black hair and an eagle nose.
"There will be no foolish wand waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion making. However, for those select few...." The man said, glancing down once at Draco who smirked. "Who possess the predisposition, I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory and even put a stopper in death."
Lily had been watching the man over the top of her book, still flushed from her embarrassment a moment before and also slightly shocked at the teacher that towered over the small first years, including herself. She felt his eyes turn in her direction only to realize that he was looking at Harry who had been writing down his words on parchment.
"Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to. Not. Pay. Attention."
Hermione and Lily both nudged Harry who looked at them in puzzlement before realizing that Snape was referring to him and he put his quill down."Mr. Potter. Our new celebrity. Tell me," Snape said, walking over to tower over Harry. "What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?"
Lily glanced over the top of her book at Harry who merely shook his head while Hermione waved her hand in the air, trying to get Snape to call upon her."You don't know?" Snape inquired. "Well let's try again. Where, Mr. Potter, would you look if I asked you to find me a bezoar?"
Hermione once again raised her hand but Snape blew her off.
"I don't know sir," Harry admitted.
"And what is the difference between monkswood and wolfbane?" Snape continued.
"I don't know sir," was the same reply.
Snape peered at Harry a moment, "Pity. Clearly fame isn't everything. Is it Mr. Potter?"
