It was Halide's eighteenth birthday, she had planned to spend the day with Serhat, as they did on each of their birthdays. The deal was to spend the whole day together, but to be home at night to celebrate with their families. He was supposed to pick her up at half past twelve and she had been ready for a long time, awaiting his arrival with excitation.
He too was excited, so he arrived more than ten minutes in advance. She looked gorgeous - she always was - in her little black flowered dress, with opaque black tights underneath and black ankle boots with very light heels. Her hair waved naturally over her shoulders and she was hardly wearing any makeup as usual.
She barely took the time to say hello before asking impatiently, "So where are we going ?"
He let out a small laugh, unsurprised, and grabbed her leather jacket - which she had prepared on a console near the door - to present it to her with a mysterious smile. She pouted slightly but resigned herself, turning to slip her arms into the sleeves of the jacket. When they came out of her house, she froze when she saw his car parked there.
"What...how...?" She stammered in surprise.
When she turned to Serhat to look at him questioningly, he proudly took his driver's license out of his jacket pocket to hand it to her. She let out an excited and delighted little cry, grabbing the card to look at it more closely. She smiled when she saw Serhat's picture in it, remembering going with him to the mall's photo booth a few months earlier to get them done. But, really, what weren't they doing together ?
"When did you receive it ? Why didn't you tell me ?!"
"I received it yesterday and I wanted to surprise you. It's a good thing, otherwise we would have had to go by taxi. It's much cooler that way, isn't it ?"
"You know it doesn't matter how we go, I don't care. We could even have gone there by bus ! But, you're right, it's much cool if you drive." She admitted, before joking: "You must be happy to finally be able to drive it after months of drooling over it."
"Nonsense."
"Please, you're looking at that car with far more attention and lust than you've ever looked at any girl !" She scoffed gently.
She didn't know it yet, but she wasn't quite right. However, he had to admit that she wasn't entirely wrong either. It's true that, since his grandmother had giften it to him for his birthday a few months earlier, it had been parked in front of the house and he hadn't stopped looking at it long and impatiently each time he passed by. He just replied : "Haha very funny".
He took the card from her hands to put it back in his pocket and pulled out a scarf from his other pocket. She smiled, puzzled, as he motioned for her to turn around. She did, well aware of the curious looks of passers-by on them, but she didn't care. Serhat fastened the blindfold on her eyes before helping her into the car. She felt the warmth of his body on top of hers as he leaned down to fasten her seat belt, and his breath on her neck that made her shiver slightly, before he closed the door and walked around the car to go up in turn.
