Halide had been dithering all week about whether or not to go to the Saturday night party. Part of her wanted to go, she wanted to see her friends, especially Alper who had been one of her closest friends before and she had missed him so much. Moreover, Derya would be there to support her.
But there is a but, named Serhat. She tried to convince herself that time had done its work, that water had flowed under the bridge, that she was strong enough today. But the fact was that all her reactions since her return to Istanbul tended to prove her wrong, starting with the countless times a day when her mind wandered, when memories came back to haunt her whether in her dreams or awake. He was always so present in her head. His memory was still so vivid.
But the worst part was that, although she feared her behavior in his presence, a part of her - much bigger than she could ever admit - actually wanted to see him. To see what he looked like today, if he had changed a lot, if his eyes still had the same shade of green and that playful glow, if his voice was still as deep and gravelly... If his gaze would still change while landing on her like it always had... She hated herself for the fear she felt that this last point in particular might have changed.
On the other hand, she knew she would cross paths with him at one point, so wouldn't it be better if it was when she was expecting it ? A moment that she herself would have provoked rather than being taken by surprise at the risk of losing her composure ?
She had always been good at playing the cold and indifferent girl. To hide her feelings behind an impassive mask. It was sort of a prerequisite when you were Hasmet Gürkan's daughter. She could do it with Serhat too. It might take more effort, but she was capable of it.
Make up your mind, kiz, you only have one hour left to prepare yourself. She thought.
Impulsively, she grabbed her cell phone to text Derya her decision: * I'm coming. * She was quick to respond : * 💃💃Great I'll pick you up in an hour as planned *
So she hurried to get ready. Arrived in front of her closet, she grabbed a dress without the slightest hesitation but, minutes later, she hesitated a moment before putting it on. It was a short, green dress. The problem being that Serhat loved it when she wore green because it was the color of his eyes, or blue because it was the color of hers. Unfortunately, along with black and white, those were the colors she preferred to wear and she liked to believe that it never had anything to do with Serhat's tastes. She rolled her eyes, exasperated to ask herself so many questions when, really, it shouldn't matter at all, and put on the dress. She put on makeup without overdoing it and made herself a mid-tail, waving her hair on the lengths.
Derya was there on time and she put the music loud in the car, pushing her cousin to sing and dance. Officially to 'get in the mood', but Halide knew it was mostly to take her mind off things and not worry too much along the way.
When they arrived, old friends immediately came to greet Halide, hugging her in turn. She had never been very close to any of them, since she really spent all her time either with Alper and Serhat, or with Derya, so they only really saw each other during parties but that made her really happy to see them. She spent a long time getting to know her friends' partners.
The instant she entered the room, Serhat looked up and his gaze found her. It was as if his whole body had recognized her presence before his eyes even saw her. His heart pounded harder in his chest, echoing in his head, and the blood flowed faster through his veins just knowing she was in the same room. Much closer than she had been for almost 6 years... His breath caught slightly when he finally got to see her fully. Damn she was gorgeous ! Breathtakingly beautiful. A smile tugged his lips slightly as he discovered the color of her dress. For a moment, he had the audacity to wonder if she had done it on purpose knowing that he loved seeing the color of his eyes on her.
