I had told the group to wait for me to rest for a minute but when I opened my eyes I realized no one had heard me. So much for sticking together. At least I had gotten a rest out of it. I picked myself up off the floor of the jungle and looked around before directing myself back towards town.
At least I had Mr. monkey with me. I really needed to name him. Mr. Monkey wouldn't work forever would it. I walked quickly though the forest until I realized I was being fallowed. I slowed and looked about.
There was quiet talking and then they sprung on me but I was ready with a dagger I flung it into the first goblins throat and his eyes went wide as I pulled it out and thrust it into his chest before I steped back. He growled as blood gurgled up and blood spilled out, bubbling out of his neck. But he didn't fall. I swallowed.
"I'll kill you" swore one of the goblins and an arrow shot at me, I dodged out of the way, just as a second one hit then a axe and finally a spell that I dodged. This was some mean business.
The goblins surround me on all sides and no time more trying then this do I wish that I wasn't alone. How did I get myself into this mess? I started screaming bloody murder and ran at the one I had already attacked stabbing him twice more. One in the eye and once in the clavicle and he pitched over inches from death.
I was already in a state from my last battle and a axe came down on my arm I screamed in pain and an green hazy blast hit a tree just narrowly avoiding me. A arrow shot into my shoulder as the third goblin shot me with his arrow from the ground.
I thew a ice dagger at the three, it shattered on the ground and the hurt goblin died in an icy mealstome.
The two goblins cried out "Roger!" distracted as they were I decided to flee up into the trees by getting my monkey to carry me up into the branches. Hiding there among the branches and leaves I blended in with them.
Finding fruit among the leaves I threw sharp pointed fruits down at the other two goblins hitting them over the head until they fell unconscious.
I waited a short time until I was sure that everything was safe and then sent Mr. Monkey to check their pockets. He came back with an assortment of goods, a poison dagger, a enchanted bow, and a enchanted war hammer.
My eyes shining I finally put the items in my bags and on my shoulders, climbing down from the trees and scurrying away with Mr. Monkey.
I was so tired at this point that as I left the forest Mr. Monkey had to partly carry me, and finally when I saw the group again, I just collapsed into the street.
When I woke up once more I was on Bel's shoulder and we were in a stuffy office, Bel was doing paperwork and a half-orc lady was sitting at the desk concentrating on the paperwork as well. She looked familiar.
"You know I can think of some ways to make this more efferent" Bel said as he worked though the pages.
"Oh please do tell me Sir Bel" said the orc
"Well for one, we could put into place a system of ranks and everyone has a membership card with their rank on it. Then they also have their name and general standing in the guild."
"Sounds like a lot more paperwork for me" she said
"Not nessicarily I was also thinking, well you already put out quests for jobs such as the one we did today, why not have quests for people who have more clerical skills that is doing paperwork."
"Not to put a pin in those plans but this is a unique situation where I wouldn't nessicarily trust just anyone with the paperwork I do. You see, I might have let you pitch in today, sir bel but I might not trust you with more serious issues."
"I understand, again those things can be worked around, there can be specific levels such as with the ranks."
"I see"
"Delegation is the key Juliana, if I may be brash and call you so"
"It is my name" she said with a nod
I realized then where I knew her from, she had arrested me when I first had come to Osmira. We use to hang out at the bars and she would arrest me for trying to pimp myself out before the lady took me on as a call bunny. They call me that because the boys call for me on stage. Juliana and I hung out less and less as I got more and more into working at the brothel.
But we had good times those first few months when she taught me the lay of the land here and how to speak the language.
"You look like you could use some fun, swing by the palace some night, I'll find you someone to have a nice time." I said with a smile.
"Well thank you for the offer but I think my wife would frown upon me showing up at her work place."
"Oh" I said
"Which one is she?" I asked
"Non of your business Paws" she says with a grin then leans down to look at me and asks "how is life?"
"Oh you know good, good, so your married now." I ask remembering our fun old days, when neither of us knew who we really were.
"I am" Juliana said and then their in nothing more to talk about from the old days.
Bel hands over the paperwork he is finished and she looks at him like she might cry, I actually think she might start crying and hug him. I will leave if she starts crying. Am I the asshole. I'm not the asshole am I? No.
I shift awkwardly as she brushes away the tears and thanks him for helping her with the work.
"I can't believe I am done before noon."
"How about we celebrate with a drink?" I say
she smiles and agrees. Maybe these are the good old days. I think as we walk outside with her and into the street. No one bothers us as we walk down and I can't help but think how useful it would be to have the guild master on my side. It certainly would make it so that people wouldn't mess with me.
As we walk into Luck's place, or as he calls it Lady Lucks Lavish Boarding House and Tavern. But everyone just calls it Lucks place around here.
