"Her leg is better," I heard the hushed voice of Jesse say as I woke out of my sleep, but I kept my eyes shut. Something told me I should wait until I make it known that I was awake.
"Okay, what are we going to tell her about Avery? We can't tell her that we sedated him so he wouldn't try anything again." Carson said.
I mentally rolled my eyes. Fucking idiots. "And why is that?" I asked without opening my eyes.
"Because she woul- Oh wait shit!" Jesse stuttered out.
I carefully sat up in bed, feeling a million times better than I did yesterday. "You guys are idiots. Even if you didn't tell me, I would have figured something was up. And I would have done anything to figure it out. Mark my fucking words. Anything." I smiled at the terrified boys. "You understand, right?"
They both nodded.
"Good." I slowly stood up, taking it easy on my leg. It felt like it does when it falls asleep, thousands of pins and needles; from the thigh down. Picture how that feels. "God damn." I cringed, starting to walk around the room, very aware of the cautious eyes of the boys.
Once I got my leg back to its regular feeling I turned to the boys. "Alright, where is the traitor?" They exchanged glances before turning to me, ready to open their mouths to tell me some synchronized bullshit, but I cut them off. "Tell me the truth," I menaced.
That seemed to have changed their minds. "In the jail cell again," Carson answered carefully watching my expression.
I rolled my eyes for the umpteenth time today. Muttering an 'idiots' as I pushed by them and walked from Jesse's room to the jail cell. I knew they were following me but I didn't care.
Once I got to the jail cell, I found the Asshole sitting there munching on a carrot without a care in the world. I sighed, reached through the bars and ripped the carrot out of his hands before he had time to even think about protesting.
Sitting down in front of him, I threw the carrot down the hall, watching his eyes follow it longingly. "Nice sedation skills boys. Didn't know you had it in ya to do this well." I said sarcastically.
"But, what? How? He was out ten minutes ago and it was supposed to work for twentyfour hours," Jesse mumbled to himself.
"Idiot," Asshole and I said at the same time. I glared at him, and he looked taken aback.
"You will not speak unless spoken to. Understood?" I growled, I could be scary when I wanted to and I knew it.
"Understood." Asshole agreed.
"Good. Now, I want you to explain why the sedative didn't work on you.”
Asshole turned to Jesse. "My power sees the chemicals in the sedative as an enemy. So it adjusts to the chemicals and sends out protector kinds of things, making sure the sedative does not get too far. Making it easier to get rid of it."
Carson's mouth was opening and closing like a fish. Until he finally came out with, "english please?"
I turned to him. "Asshole's and I's brains kill the sedative before it has a chance to fully shut down our body. Our abilities won't allow it." That's why my suicide didn't work, I silently added.
"Oh," Jesse said, looking dumbfounded.
Out of the corner of my eye I could see Carson giving me a meaningful look. He finally made the connection. I downed a whole bottle of sleeping pills, but my brain didn't allow them to take over. What would have killed me was bleeding out, but that didn't work either. Because someone from the Healer Clan must have gotten some of his shit in me, making me have their abilities. They were able to heal wounds with a snap of their fingers when they were at full strength.
