Alright so to give some background--I have been wanting to write this for a long time but only recently got a reason to, lol. So I went to the Jaya Discord for some inspo! Here's the AU info that I wrote in the Jaya Discord:

Circus freak AU:

Nya and Kai grew up in the circus, taken away after their parents died (AKA were killed by some unidentified people) due to their powers they started to display.

Nya loves the water and dances with it in long, ribbon-like strands around her. They force her to dress up like a mermaid sometimes, other times they let her dance with her water and dancing ribbons on a tightrope.

Kai isn't afraid of anything the circus throws at him. Lions? Done it. Sword-swallowing? He'll make the sword. Done. He's in line to own the circus someday but the manager doesn't plan to let that happen. Kai doesn't want to anyway. He wants to get away from it all and let Nya dance wherever she wants to.

Jay, a rich (now orphan) boy who was kidnapped for his hidden powers by someone on the inside, is brought to the circus and meets (and falls in love with) Nya. His powers have always been kept secret by his mom and dad (who were incredibly rich). They didn't want him being brought up as an elemental master like his mom was. He's a little more cocky and "bad boi" than the show, being used to getting all the girls and things he ever wanted.

They're soon joined by Cole, who ran away from Broadway to join the circus because he was being pressured to 👀 with his cast mates. He's always felt he would like to get down and dirty with the earth instead of makeup-ed and pampered onstage.

Zane, a mechanical man who's constantly covered in frost and can solve any mathematical problem within seconds. He was found abandoned in the forest and with amnesia, which is when he was convinced to join the circus. He freezes anything he touches if his emotions spiral.

Imagine Jay and Nya getting into a fight when he tries to get closer (physically and emotionally) to her and she pushes him away. Jay starts to freak out a bit when she gets angry and storms away. He does what he remembers his mom doing to him when he's upset.

Jay was watching Nya perform her routine from afar. She was amazing with dancing in the air. Her ribbons fluttered every time she moved and she never failed. Never missed. Right as he stepped into the light, she noticed him. She came down from her perch and started to turn and walk away.

They'd had a bit of a disagreement earlier when Jay had introduced her (accidentally) to his friends at the theatre and they hated her. Now he was determined to make it up, no matter what.

Nya turned slightly, then kept walking. She wasn't giving him the satisfaction of seeing he was intriguing her. Desperately, Jay continued to sing. As he kept going, Nya realized why this song sounded so familiar. Her mom used to sing it to her and Kai. Jay's mother must've sung it to him too.
