Her Smile ~ Lily Evans x Fem Reader

Chapter One

September 1st, 1976:

Y/N woke up early, too excited to be back at Hogwarts for her to sleep. She stayed in bed till about 8:45, before deciding to get ready for the day. Once she woke up she got dressed in some comfortable clothes before brushing through her hair and pulling it back into a loose ponytail. She headed down the stairs of her family's cottage, before walking into thr kitchen. 

The smell of blueberry pancakes filled her nose while she walked into the kitchen. "Morning Mum," She said, leaning against the counter beside her mother. Hope smiled at her, "Good morning, Darling. Sleep well?" She said while flipping a pancake to the other side. "The best," Y/N said cheerfully. 

Her brother, Remus, walked into the kitchen rubbing his eyes, looking very tired. "Morning Mum," He said groggily, before sitting down at the family's small table. "Hello Dear," His mother chuckled, laughing at his very messy hair. She put some pancakes and fruit on two plates, giving them to her children. 

Remus ate very slow, reading a book he left out in the kitchen, while Y/N ate faster than she usually would. "Slow down dear," Hope said to Y/N. "Sorry Mum, but I've got to do some last minute packing before we leave for Kings Cross," Y/N responded, eating some strawberries. After her plate was clean she stood up from her place at the table, taking the plate to the sink. After washing up her dishes, she sets the plate out to dry, before rushing back up the stairs into her bedroom. 

Y/N picks up her trunk from the floor, setting it on her bed. She rushes about in her room, picking up the things she thinks she will need for the year. She sets a couple of pictures of her and her friends into the trunk. She starts putting the last one away before pausing and taking it back out again. Y/N looks at the moving photo of herself and Lily, sighing lightly. 

'I wish i looked like her, wish i could be like her' Y/N thought, staring at Lilys beautiful ginger locks of hair. Her smile was perfect and white, her wonderful green eyes looking at the camera. Y/N kept on looking at the picture, remembering when it was taken. Her, Marlene, Lily and Mary had been climbing trees in the courtyard while Dorcas was serving a detention. The sun was shining brightly but it was slightly cold out. Marlene fell off of the tree branch and landed not so gracefully, while Y/N and Mary were laughing their heads off. Lily gave them a telling off for laughing at their friend. 

Y/N eventually stopped looking at the photo, putting it in the trunk with the rest of her stuff. She put a few other things into it before struggling to close it. Once the trunk was closed she picked up the book that was laying on her bed. She layed down on her stomach before opening the book where she left off, and started reading. 

"Y/N! Time to go," She heard her father, Lyall, call from the downstairs of the cottage. Y/N paused her reading, marking her page before closing her book. She grabbed her trunk before heading downstairs. She walked into the living room, seeing her mum and dad waiting for her. Remus wasn't in the room yet and she was about to ask her parents where her brother was until he walked in right behind her. Remus, Lyall, Y/N, and Hope linked arms before Lyall aparated to kings cross, taking the rest of the family along, 

When they arrived, Remus and Y/N walked straight to the wall in between platforms 9 and 10, before leaning against the wall and falling through it swiftly. Once on platform 9 3/4, the siblings waited for their parents to get there. Lyall and Hope walked through the wall about 30 seconds after them. Remus hugged Hope as Y/N hugged Lyall, saying their goodbyes before switching to the other parent. When all goodbyes have been exchanged, the siblings split from their parents, looking for their friends. Eventually Y/N spotted James, and tugged om Remus' sleeve so he would follow her through the crowd to get to where the Potters Stood. 

"Oi! Jamie!" Y/N called to the messy haired boy. When he heard his name, James turned around to see who had caught his attention. He saw two of his best friends and broke into a smile. "Y/n/n(Your nickname), Moony," James said, nodding to both of you. "Come on then, Padfoot said he would save our compartment for us. Best get there before the train takes off," James chuckled. They picked their trunks back up and the three of them head onto the train. After walking along to find the compartment, Y/N opened the door to it and Sirius is sitting there with Peter.

"Padfoot, Wormtail," James catched their attention, nodding to each of them like he did Remus and Y/N. Remus sat by the window, across from Sirius. Peter was next to Sirius, across from James, and Y/N was sitting beside the Potter boy. The five engaged in conversation about Hogwarts and a bunch of other subjects until Lily came barging in. "Mind if I steal Y/N?" "Not at all, Lily Flower," James said, staring at her with admiration. Y/N stood up and followed Lily out of the compartment before they walked a little further down the train to get to the girls' compartment. 

While walking down the train, Y/N couldn't help but rememebr a feeling of discomfort when James was staring at Lily. She shrugged off the feeling as Lily opened the door to her own compartment. The two girls sat down and Y/N exchanged 'Hello's and 'How was your summer?'s with Dorcas, Mary, and Marlene. Alice was no where to be seen, but she was probably with Frank, as usual. 

A couple of hours went by before the trolly lady came back round the train again. Lily, along with Y/N went out to get some sweets, looking for the best to pick out. As Y/N reached for the last chocolate frog, Lily did the same. The two pulled away and looked at each other, Y/N swore to herself she thought Lily's cheeks tinged pink. "Go ahead, you have it," Lily insisted, but Y/N shook her head picking it up and offering it to the redhead. "If you insist," She shrugged. 

Y/N picked out a few other sweets and deserts before paying and walking back into the compartment. She sat back down and got out her book that she had been reading back at the cottage. She opened to the page she left off before starting to read. After a few more hours had passed, Y/N felt like she could fall asleep at any moment, and allowed herself to. 

She rested her head on Mary for support but before drifting off to sleep, she could see the beautiful redhead shift in her seat slightly. Y/N ignored it, thinking it could have been something Marlene was talking about, or maybe something she was thinking. Y/N pulled her legs up to where they were resting on the seat, then fell asleep on Mary's shoulder.
