Chapter 4

I was in the passenger seat of Mrs. Miller's mini van. Giovannie and Kyle was in the back seat chatting about stuff. Susan stopped at the stoplight and she leaned to me slightly.

“I know you are gay?” she whispered with an excited gleam in her eyes.

Joy another fan girl, I thought but kept my smile.

“Okay,” I said simply.

“Don't worry, me and my husband are not judgmental, you see Harry's brother is gay and I have a very small inkling that Trevor is gay. You can call it mother intuition,” Susan said.

“Oh really, so you really don't know?” I asked intrigued.

“Unfortunately, no, I even asked him, he just got up and walked away with out a word,” Susan said solemnly.

We pulled into the elementary school and everyone got out.

“After hearing your experiences at Giovannie's school, you won't have that here, we are completely gay friendly here. In fact, our schools are the second popular school system that all homosexual parents enter their children to,” Susan informed me.

I felt relief when she said that, now I can comfortably take my child to school.

“Here we are,” Susan said snapping me out of my thoughts.

The words “Front Office” was printed in white on the shaded glass doors. We walked in and I took control and walked to the front desk. There was an middle age brunette woman was typing away on the computer.

“RedRose Elementary school, how may I help you?” she said into her headset and she went quiet for a moment and then said, “I'll transfer you to her, buh bye.” and she pressed a button on the headset.

She looked at me and smiled. “Welcome to RedRose Elementary school. How may I help you?”

“Stop flirting, he is gay, Ruby,” Susan said stopping next to me.

“Oh, sorry,” she blushed.

I chuckled, “Its okay, I want to sign my son in, please.” I said.

“Oh, of course.” she turned to the computer and typed away. “Is your son named, Giovannie Kale?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“Okay, you need to fill out two things, what is your mother's maiden name?”

“Rivera,” I said.

She typed away, “Are you married or single?”

“Mar...” I stopped myself and sighed, “Single.”

“Okay,” she said typing down the answers and then she hit print.

“Okay, your son is in the last set of kindergarten so he'll be in first grade when fall semester starts. Here is his class right now. And now recess is over so you can go ahead and see the class and he starts school tomorrow. Is he going to a car rider or a bus rider?” she asked.

“Put both,” I said.

“Okie dokie,” she said and turned to the computer.

Susan grabbed Kyle's hand and Giovannie reached for my hand and we walked down the empty hall. The tiles were greenish blue and the walls were dirty white. It took us several moments to reach our destination. The red door with room number 321 printed in the middle. Susan knocked on the door and an young black woman opened the door.
