Chapter 9
I felt the tug of awareness as the numbness of the sleep fades, I moaned softly and opened my eyes awaking to a new day. Gio was sleep next to me snoring since his nose is out of wack. I gently got out of bed and put on sweatpants that was draped on the chair in the corner and left the room. I walked into kitchen, I saw Shane sitting in on the high stool his face buried in his hand and a cup of steaming coffee in front of him. Shane looked up at the sound of my footsteps.
“Aiden, I'm sorry, it was an accident,” Shane apologized.
I went to the coffeemaker and poured me a mug of hot coffee and turned and leaned against the counter-top and I sipped the hot liquid.
“I'm not the one you should be apologizing to, however, as a father I forgive you. You still has to make amends with Giovannie,” I said.
Shane nodded and sipped his coffee and we lapsed in silence until our mother came waltzing in.
“Good morning everyone. Aiden, how is Giovannie?” she asked.
“He is good, a minor broken nose easily corrected. He is asleep still.”
“Good, good,” she said.
I nodded and turned to grab a pan and placed it on the burner.
“No, no, no, let mummy cook breakfast and you sit and relax.” Mom said and bumped me out of the way.
“Okay,” I said and I went into the bathroom and into the mirror cabinet and I grabbed the children's aspirins and read the instructions. Giovannie was old enough to have a whole tablet. I opened the top and took out a tablet and closed the top with a snap and put it back in the cabinet. I walked into the kitchen again and dad was there sitting next to Shane drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.
“Morning dad,”
I said walking past him.
I went into the cabinet and pulled out a glass and went into the refrigerator and poured a glass of orange juice.
“Morning,” dad grunted.
I rolled my eyes and set the glass on the table with the tablet. I walked down the hall on to get bumped by Giovannie.
“Good morning, Hun,” I said bending now. “How are you feeling?”
“My nose hurt,” Gio complained.
“I got medicine for you, come on,” I said and walked back to the kitchen with Giovannie following me.
“Hey Giovannie,” My mother said as soon as she saw him.
Shane had disappeared and my father nodded head in acknowledgement, I rolled my eyes again getting irritated by his silence.
“Up you go,” I said as Gio hopped on to the stool and I handed him the tablet he ate it and then he drank the orange juice.
“Breakfast is almost ready,” Mom said cheerily.
Shane poked his head in from the hallway and he walked in looking guilty.
“Little man,” he said getting Gio's attention. “I'm sorry I broke your nose,” Shane said apologetic and held out a present wrapped in blue paper.
Gio's eyes were alight with curiosity and excitement and I know Shane was forgiven. Gio grabbed the box and set it on the table and ripped the paper apart, it was the game system Wii.
“OH MY GOD, ITS A Wii!!!!” Gio shouted and hugged Shane. I smiled at his happiness and Gio was bouncing up and down.
“Put that away, breakfast is served,” Mom said.
