~Rosemary's pov~
"Daddy!" Scarlett shouted, when there was a knock at the door. "No, Scar. It's not daddy..." I told her, and she frowned. "I want daddy!!" She whined, tears filling her eyes. I picked her up, and Scarlett curled into me. I opened the door, but no one was there. There was an envelope, and a line of string leading down the stairs. "Wanna open the card, Scar? I think it's from Daddy." She nodded, still looking upset. I handed the card to her, and with her little fingers, she ripped open the envelope. I pulled out the letter encased inside, and held it out so I could read it to Scarlett.
Dear Horan family,
Niall has asked me to set up a surprise for you, so all you have to do is follow the string, and it will lead you to the surprise. Niall has told me to write that he loves you and that he'll see you soon. Good luck!
Sincerely,
A friend"Daddy?" Scarlett asked, looking up at me. She looked really excited now, and that was a good thing. I couldn't bear to see more tears from her, or I would cry too. I've had to stay strong for Scarlett, but it's hard.... Being so far from Niall, but he's coming home soon. I set Scarlett down, and she started following the line of string down the sidewalk. "Hey, Scar! Wait!" She stopped, and crawled back to you. "We'll do it together, yeah?" I asked her, and she nodded. Down the stairs, and out into the street, we walked along. Attached to my car, was a photo. Scarlett had noticed it first, shouting and pointing at it. "Mummy! Mummy! Look!" I could see it was taken on a Polaroid camera, and it was Niall and I, right after I had first run into him on the street.
On the bottom of the picture, written in pen, it said, "When I first saw your beautiful face,". Scarlett grabbed the picture, looking at it. "It's you, Mummy! And you're with Daddy!!" She shouted, looking proud that she figured it out. I laughed, and nodded. "Yeah, Scar. It's me and Daddy when we first met. It was four years ago, way before you were born, love." She stuck out her tongue, and crinkled her face. "Did you kiss?" I shook my head, smirking. "No, Scar. We didn't love each other then. We were just friends." We continued walking, Scarlett holding my hand, because she is not the best at walking yet, and moved forward.
The next picture was sitting on a bench, even though there were people sitting on the bench, no one sat in front of the picture. I remember the paps snapping pictures of us on our first date, and this must've been one of them. The caption said, "When I first realized I loved you," I handed the photo to Scarlett, who insisted on carrying all of the 'pretty pictures'. An hour and twenty photos later, Scarlett and I arrived at the beach where Niall had taken me for our first anniversary. So much has happened since then, but I couldn't be happier for it. I wouldn't want it any other way. "Mummy? Where are we?" Scarlett asked, holding my hand tightly. "The beach." I told her, picking up my nervous little girl. "Why?" She replied, looking out in front of me.
"I don't know, Scar... But I guess we'll find out." Walking out onto the sand, as the sun dipped below the horizon, the only thing I could see was the ocean in front of me. Then a bark pierced the air, and a small chocolate-brown puppy bounded over to us. He jumped on Scarlett, licking her face happily. Scarlett squealed, and pet the little dog. I lifted the little puppy and looked at the collar. It didn't have a name tag. The puppy licked my face, and yipped happily. "Do you have an owner little guy?" I asked him, but the dog just curled up at my feet. Scarlett was ecstatic. "Can we keep him mummy? Can we keep him? Please?!" I sighed, as Scarlett pleaded and begged. "She might already have an owner, Scar. We can't just take her. That's stealing." Scarlett stuck out her bottom lip in a pout, and I gasped. She looked just like her father.
"Please, mummy?" She gave me puppy dog eyes, ones that were just like her father's. "I- uh......" I was at a loss for words. A shrill whistle sounded from behind us, and the little puppy bounded over to the lad. He had on a SnapBack and sunglasses, even though it was dark. Scarlett crawled onto my lap, and hugged me, scared. "You found my dog?" It seemed the lad was try to sound American, but I could easily hear his Irish accent. "Scar... That's daddy." She looked up at me, with widened eyes. "Really?" She asked, and I nodded. "Go say hi." I whispered to her. "What if it's not him?" Scarlett asked. For an eight-month old, she was a genius. "I promise it's him. Want to know how I know?" I asked, and she nodded. "See his hat? I bought it for him for his birthday. You can't see it, but the back of the hat says Horan on it. He got me one too, so we'd match. Go say hi."
This time, she stood and started walking over to him. I prayed it was him and not some imposter here to kidnap my daughter. "Daddy?" She asked nervously, looking up at him. Her real daddy couldn't hold back his smile.... I thought, and sure enough, the lad grinned. "My baby girl!!" He scooped her up, Scarlett laughing as he did so. "You're so big!!!" He cooed, spinning her around. I stood and ran up to them, hugging him. "I've missed you both so much," Niall said, kissing Scarlett's head. "We missed you too." I told him, and Scarlett put her arms around his neck. The puppy scampered around our feet. "You got a dog?!" I asked him, and he smiled.
"I thought of it as an 'I'm sorry I left you both alone for so long' and Scarlett's early birthday present.." He explained, giving me a kiss. "Eeeewwww!!!" Scarlett cried, covering her eyes. I giggled, pulling away. "C'mon, Ni. Let's spare our daughter the details until she's older." He groaned, but agreed. "Who set up the string and the pictures?" I asked Niall as we walked back to our flat. "Luke." Niall told me, and I grinned. "So tour's over?" I asked, and Niall nodded. The little brown puppy nipped at my ankles, and I picked it up warily. "Did you have to get a dog?" I asked him, scratching it's ears.
"It was for you and Scarlett. I know how much you miss me while I'm gone, so I got you an Irish Setter puppy to remind you of me while I'm gone. You can choose the name. Do you like him?" Niall blushed slightly, his cheeks a light shade of pink. Normally, I don't like dogs, but it was a gift. There was no way I was going to turn it down. "He is awfully cute..... Just like our Nialler..." Niall blushed again, and Scarlett giggled. "Ok. We'll keep him." Both Niall and Scar smiled the same cheeky grin. "Yay! Mummy!! Thank you!!" Scarlett told me excitedly. I smiled for Scarlett, but I was waiting until she wasn't around to get back at Niall. He knows I'd much rather have a cat, but no.... He had to go and get a dog! I'll be having a chat with him later.
Once we arrived back at our flat, Niall brought Scarlett to the nursery and put her to bed. I found an old box and used it to make a bed for the hyper little puppy. Niall told me the puppy was already potty-trained, so that was one less problem I had to worry about. The puppy whimpered when I placed him in the box, and he tried to claw his way out. I sighed, patting his furry head. "I'm sorry, buddy. I'll be back to get you out in the morning. Try to get some sleep." I told the little puppy, even though he doesn't understand me. I made sure the puppy had water and I gave him an old shoe of mine to chew on. He seemed to like that. "Night," I said, before heading back towards Scar's nursery.
Niall was singing Scarlett to sleep when I arrived in the doorway. I just watched, because it was too cute a moment to intrude. Scarlett was already asleep, but Niall didn't stop his singing until the song was over. When he walked back out into the living room, I was waiting for him on the sofa, laptop perched on my lap. "Scarlett's asleep." Niall stated, before settling down in the sofa next to me. "Good." I replied, still staring at the laptop screen. "Whatcha doing?" He asked sweetly, peeking over my shoulder at the laptop screen. "Nothing really," I told him, but I could feel the blush rising to my cheeks.
When Niall saw the wedding dresses and tuxes, he turned red. "Oh......" He stuttered, looking down. "Somebody has to do it... And I have to admit I'm kind of excited," I said, kissing him. "I love you." He smiled bashfully, and kissed me back. "I love you too, Princess." I moved the laptop and we both started planning for the wedding, which was to be at the end of the summer, but before the start of fall. My favorite time of year... It's not too hot, not too cold..... Perfect, just like this wedding will be. I curled into Niall's side as he asked me what color his tux should be.
