The flower boy woke again.
January 20th
I don't believe yesterday happened. He made me feel things again. I hate him. Why did he have to do that...? To make my head go crazy like that. If he's not careful, my heart might explode. Gosh, Sunny...He was unconsciously smiling as he wrote that. He looked at the time: 9:06 AM. Aubrey was supposed to come because she was gonna borrow his camera for some 'school project,' she said. He doubted it's actually for that, though, but he didn't mind anyway. They're friends.
He decided to take a shower before she came, but he'd later realise that it was a very bad idea.
"Basil! Let me borrow your camera!" Aubrey shouted from outside, but he couldn't hear, so Polly let her in.
"Ah, I think he's in the shower. You said you're here to borrow his camera?"
"Oh, hi, Polly! Yeah, for um -- school stuff, you know? That kind of...thing."
It was all over her face that she was lying. Polly didn't pry anymore. Teens will be teens.
"You can sit there and wait for him to come out. He'll just be fast."
"Thanks,"
She sat. And Basil was not fast. Polly was busy making his breakfast. Perhaps...she could go in his room to take the camera?
She quietly made her way into the boy's room. It was...very neat, unlike Kel's, which just happens to be clean whenever Hero's around. Plants and flowers all around, of course. That's what he always loved. No trash, not even dirt anywhere. He's good at taking care of himself, she thought. Looking around more, she finally saw what she wanted: his camera, but there was something beside it.
"What...?"
There was a notebook, labeled My Comfort Flower. She knew better than to look at it; she did, but this time, temptation took over. Curiosity is a man's worst enemy.
And she read everything. She knew everything.
Basil was horrified to come into his room and seeing one of his friends read his precious, secret diary.
"Aubrey?"
The girl was so startled, she accidentally dropped the notebook. The look in Basil's eyes knew that she had to apologise right away.
"Basil, I'm so sorry, I -- "
"Get out, please,"
"I didn't mean to, I...I'm sorry..."
"Just take the camera and go."
"Basil -- "
She wanted to say more; to apologise, but Basil was smiling.
"You can go, Aubrey."
She knew not to speak a word. She left, camera in hand, feeling immense guilt that she lost her friend's trust. Why did I do that? she thought to herself. I'm so stupid. I need to make it up to him.
Basil decided to shut himself in his room for the day. He was worried; someone knew his secret. That he likes boys, and of all people, it was his best friend. Was Aubrey gonna tell everyone? No -- they've matured enough to keep each other's secrets. Is Aubrey gonna hate him now? Change the way she thinks about him? Or maybe purposely try to stop Sunny from going near him?
He was overthinking again."Basil?" Polly called from outside. "You haven't eaten since you woke up. Are you okay? Are you sick?"
"I-I'm fine, Polly," he replied. "Just not now. I'm...thinking."
"Oh...well...don't starve, okay? I'll be here."
Basil sighed.
He needs to stop pushing people away at times like this. He needs to face Aubrey. Maybe later...? But he doesn't know where she'd be.
He'll probably just find her while strolling around. He needs some fresh air, anyway.
"I'm going out," he said, changing into his shoes.
"Oh? Have you eaten yet?"
He smiled. "Of course, don't worry."
"Be back before dinner."
He headed out. He found Aubrey at a cafe.
