Chapter 21

Devons Pov:

Claire and I sit down at the dinner table and my mom's hands us the food.

"So..your mom told me that you two are kinda sorta dating?" Mama says with a grin, making us blush.

"Well.." I look down embarrassedly, which makes them chuckle.

I then feel Claire put her hand on my thigh, on which I look at her. She looks at me with a big smile, making me smile as well. But she then suddenly leans in and gives me a soft peck, leaving me shocked.

I didn't think she'd just kiss me in front of them..

I embarrassedly bury my face in her shoulder, which makes her chuckle softly.

"You two are really cute." I hear mom say, making me just blush more.

"Buuut your food is getting cold!" She adds, so I lift my head while laughing.

"Yeah yeah.." I mutter before starting to eat.

"So..I already suggested this to Devon but since she wasn't sure I thought I maybe ask about your opinion." Claire starts after a few minutes of silence.

I instantly look at her with a raised eyebrow. She gives me a sheepish smile while placing her right hand on my cheek and softly brushing her thumb over it.

"I'm in the theater club and we're looking for a few more people for our musical and I would really love if Devon would join us." She continues with a smile and then looks at me.

"I would really like singing with you again." She adds, making my face soften.

Claire and I always sung together when we were younger. We both were in the choir in our school. Not a day went by where we didn't sing together.

But my voice has really changed over the years. I took lessons and now my voice is even more powerful than before. It wasn't that my voice wasn't good but I wanted to be the best I could get.

Claire is one of very few people who know I can sing. She also knows my mom taught me how to dance but I've never danced in front of her.

I wish I could dance with her on the winter ball..

"Ohh it would be so great, Devon! Come on, you love to sing and dance!" Mama says excitedly, making us chuckle.

"I don't know.." I mutter while looking down at my hands.

"Look- you don't have to do it if you don't want to." I hear Claire say, which makes me look at her again.

"But..just so you know..I already got casted for one of the lead roles and..the other lead role is the love interest. They have a kiss scene at the end, you know? So..you could kiss me in front of the whole school." She adds while placing her hands on my thighs and slowly dragging them upwards as she leans closer to my face.

"Well..that's a very good reason to join.." I mutter and she hums with a smirk before leaning in and gently kissing her.

"But what if I don't get the role? Then you'll kiss someone else.." I say worriedly, on which her face softens.

"You're the best singer I've ever met, Devon. There's no way you won't get the role with your voice." Claire tells me and I look down while blushing deeply.

"All the roles are gender neutral and Mr. Johnson is literally the gayest dude I've ever met. Believe me, when he gets to make the lead couple gay, he will." She adds, making me chuckle.

"Okay, I'll audition." I tell her and her eyes widen.

"Ahhh, it's gonna be awesome!" She exclaims happily before cupping my cheeks and kissing me.

I can't help but smile against the kiss
