It was a fine autumn day. Trees stood all around Hogwarts with colourful leaves. James was on his way to transfiguration, walking enthusiastically towards the classroom through the busy hallways. There were two reasons we was happy. First one, Sirius, Remus and Peter are going to be there. They didn't have any classes together since morning. The messy haired boy had missed his bestfriends. Ignore the fact that he shares the dorm with them and just saw them this morning and will also be with them all day after the classes. Second reason was it was it was his favourite Minnie's class. He loved her and every second of their detentions since his first year, first week at Hogwarts.
He burst opened the door, "I am HERE and I am DEER" he said successfully interrupting the class.
"MR.POTTER! I appreciate silence and peace during my classes." Professor McGonagall hissed, hiding her smile. Untold secret was that she loved seeing her beloved not-son in her class.
"And Greatness as well, I assume. Hence, here I am" the boy said walking towards his best friends, Remus and Peter.
Remus was hiding behind his books, his dream that James would finally act like a human at least on his fifth year has already evaporated. Peter was rummaging through his backpack, trying to find his quill. James walked towards them and sat in between. But, the first thing he noticed was that his bestest mate, the most handsome one was absent.
"Where's Padfoot?" he asked his friends, ignoring the professor who was explaining how to transfigure a chicken into a parrot.
"Dunno. Haven't seen him since Herbology" Remus said, eyes not leaving the blackboard.
Padfoot would never miss Minnie's classes. Is he in danger? He thought. He raised his hand as if he was eager to ask something important. The woman saw his hands and she knew right away that, this kid is never up to any good, so she prepared herself for some crazy questions. She motioned him to speak. "If you ask anything irrelevant to what we are talking about now, I suggest that you shall keep it to yourself.
"My questions is totally in topic. So, How many chickens does it take to defeat a Griffin." He asked with a straight face as Peter looked at him surprised, while Remus face palmed, requestioning every one of his life choices.
"Get out, now!" She sighed, annoyance radiating through her nerves.
Proud that his plan worked, James picked up all this belongings , except his friends who wanted to get some education, left the classroom. Since most students were in class the hallways were mostly empty. The boy took this chance to sprint to the Gryffindor tower. The common room was as crowded as the hallways he ran through as well. He threw his backpack on the chair by the fireplace and climbed up the stairs towards his dorm.
The door was slightly opened revealing a black haired boy sitting on the floor. James went in. Sirius was on the floor next to his bed, hugging his legs to his chest as his head rested on his knees.
"Padfoot? Are you alright?" he asked.
"No, Prongs" Sirius whispered, not looking up at his best friend.
James felt concern rising up his spine. He crouched down beside the long haired boy. "What happened?" he asked.
"I can't decide, Prongs. It is so hard" Sirius burst out into sobs.
"Decide what?" James put a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Should I take Remus's last name and become Sirius Lupin or Remus should take mine and become Remus Black? I am not sure what would piss mum off more. Or should we just squish both of our name together and make it Lupin-Black or Black-Lupin? Which one sounds better? I like everything, Prongs! But I can't decide which one the the BEST!" Sirius expressed his dilemma.
James blinked in shock. Is that why he didn't come to any classes today?
"What do I do? Prongssss! Help me!"
"I don't know, Padfoot. May be you should ask him out on a date first? aren't you missing the Step 1?"
