"Ellie?" Meredith walked into her daughter's bedroom

"M-ommy!" Ellis woke up with a huge smile

"Hi honey" Meredith kissed her daughter's forehead "Ready for today? It's Riley's birthday" Meredith smiled

"R-illlley!" Ellis smiled

"So let's get up and grab a nice outfit, what do you think?" Meredith asked

Ellis smiled once her mother unstrapped her from her night braces. Ellis was now in her twenties but needed as much help as before, maybe even more as she had needed a wheelchair more often but she had no strength to push herself for a long time so Meredith and Derek had bought an electric one. It wasn't too big which made it easy on outings

Ellis walked towards her closer, steadying herself against all kinds of objects and the wall

"Easy honey" Meredith laughed and held her daughter steady on her feet

"Th-is!" Ellis pulled out a sweater and gave it to Meredith "A-And th-is" She pulled out her favourite pair of pants

"Perfect match" Meredith smiled and placed the clothes down on the bed "Wanna take a bath or shower first?"

"B-Bath! W-ith b-bu-bubbles!"

"We'll make that work" Meredith helped Ellis towards the bathroom where she started running the water "Pink, rainbow or lavender?" Meredith asked

"-Vender!" Ellis squealed

"Lavender it is" Meredith smiled

...

"Okay baby, let's go show off to daddy" Meredith said as she finished dressing her daughter

"Yes!" Ellis giggled and ran off towards her dad. Meredith slowly followed

"You look stunning" She heard her husband say

"R-Rilllley. Birth-birthday" Ellis smiled

"That's right. Riley's fifth birthday" Derek responded

Meredith took a seat on the chair as she needed to take a short break. Taking care of Ellis wasn't always easy, especially now she was starting to get older

"Ellie honey, why don't you sit down and I'll make us some breakfast" Derek suggested as he noticed his exhausted wife was lost in thoughts

"Sleep-over!" Ellis giggled "Want sleep at Zo!"

"You wanna sleep at Zola's?" Meredith guessed as she sipped from her cup of coffee

"Yes!" Ellis smiled widely

"Let's ask her later on" Meredith placed her hand over Ellis' before she stood up to grab both Ellis' and her own meds "Here honey, take these first" Meredith motioned to the glass of juice that was standing in front of her

"M-Mmm-ommyyy" Ellis' wrist clutched against her chest

"Hey sweetie, what's going on?" Meredith asked as she stroke her hand through Ellis's blonde hair

"N-Naah" Ellis shook her head

"Shh honey, it's okay" Meredith said softly

"Another seizure?" Derek frowned

"She hasn't had one in four days, it was to be expected" Meredith didn't look away from Ellis until she seemed to be coming out of it

"Yeah" Derek sighed as he put the plate of pancakes on the table and kissed Ellis' head "Are you tired princess?"

Ellis nodded as some tears fell down her cheek

Derek kept rubbing his hand over her small back while Meredith was trying to help Ellis with eating. She usually did this all by herself but after a seizure she was so woozy it was impossible

"Ellis, don't forget to chew" Meredith remembered her daughter

After one pancake it became clear it wasn't gonna work. Meredith rubbed Ellis' back as she was trying to swallow the last pieces while Derek was setting up her tube feeding

"Okay Ellis, sit still please" He said as she squirmed in her seat

"M-ommy" She wined

"I know honey. You can nap in a bit" Meredith held Ellis in her arms

"I'll carry her to the couch, can you make sure her wires don't get stuck?" Derek asked Meredith who nodded in agreement

Once Derek had laid Ellis down he had to stretch his back. He had gotten much older the past years and despite Ellis being small and lightweight it was taking its toll

"Why don't we join her for a short nap" Meredith softly suggested as she rubbed her husband's back

"That's a very nice idea" He breathed

"Mer, are you almost ready?" Derek asked

"Hmm" She nodded

"What's wrong?" Derek asked concerned

"I'm so tired" Meredith sighed

"I know. Just enjoy today, everyone's there" Derek kissed her lips

"Riley's getting big" Meredith smiled

"She is" Derek agreed "She looks so much like Zo" He smiled

"Can't wait to see Luke and Ella" Meredith smiled

"Zola arranged a Disney princess to come over" Derek chuckled

"Oh Ellis will love that as well" Meredith smiled and heard Ellis running towards them

"M-ommy!" Ellis smiled

"Hi princess, do you wanna get ready for Riley's party?" Meredith softly asked

"Yes!"

"Let's go" Meredith chuckled softly and walked behind Ellis who ran towards her room "One or two plaits?" Meredith asked

"T-T-Two!" Ellis moaned

"Okay honey. Let's sit you down so I can brush your hair and start"

Ellis was starting to squirm when Meredith was halfway the second plait but she had managed to finish without too much of a fuzz

"Mer, did you take your bp?" Derek asked her once she and her daughter walked back into the living room

"No, not yet. Can you make sure Ellis is ready to leave while I do that?" Meredith asked

"Of course" Derek kissed her forehead "Come on Ellie"
