Summary: After you end your relationship with Peter, he just can't seem to let you go. Will he give up or will he win you back?
Peter stood on top of a random building right across the cafe where y/n has been working for a little over 3 months now. His eyes scanned over the group of people in the cafe, seemingly searching for a single person, and when that person was found, his eyes followed them.
Y/n's shift had just ended, as you stepped out of the cafe to go on your way home. Peter's breath got caught in his chest as he watched you step out of the cafe, He gulped anxiously and felt the perspiration forming on his palms, knowing that at one point, he would've been there to offer you his hand and guide you home. And that your hand should still be his to hold.
You were the one that decided to end the relationship, citing that your personal issues and insecurities stopped you from being a suitable partner. It was a real "it's not you, it's me" moment and though it seemed cliché, Peter went along with it purely out of respect but he never wanted things to end. Not even in a million years.
Peter straightened himself out, tucked his shoulders back, and stood tall as he wiped his hands on his jacket. He relaxed his heartbroken expression into one of indifference, one that gave the appearance of detachment only to mask the fact that he was so full of pain.
Peter approached you as you walked on your way home, pretending he happened to be around and casually just ran into you. "Oh hey y/n! .. what're you doing here?" Peter greeted coolly as he now walked next to you. He knew that you had been putting in long hours at work. He was worried that you might've been working a bit too hard in an attempt to keep your distance from him.
"Hey Peter, I just finished my work shift, what were you doing?"
"Oh, you know. just some Spider-Man stuff."
You knew that wasn't true. You would frequently notice Peter watching you for hours from the building across as you were working.
"Oh yeah, how're things around here?"
"Stable for now," he answered smiling. Oh, how you missed seeing that smile.
As the two of you were walking, hands casually brushing against each other, having a full-on fun conversation going, you couldn't stop thinking bout how much you missed this... missed him.
As soon as your skin met with his, Peter was transported back to better days. He was reminded of the late-night park walks where your hand would effortlessly find his or how your fingers would softly tug at the hem of his t-shirt and pull him into sweet and gentle kisses. He remembered chilly nights in his apartment where he would rub your hands between his and feel content. In that brief moment, he could've recalled every moment. And he desperately missed it.
Peter caught a glimpse of your eyes shifting uncomfortably, from the tension in your face, he realized that perhaps, he had lingered a second too long and you might have momentarily read his mind.
Peter jumped back, impulsively as he dropped his backpack.
"I'm so sorry," he said as he took another step back.
"It's okay. Don't worry about it," you said quickly.
Once again, your hands met as you both tried to pick up his backpack.
"Uh, you must've been exhausted from today," you started uneasily as you shifted the backpack to Peter's grip. "I'll go on alone from here."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Of course," you added with a swift nod.
"Oh...okay." Peter feigned a smile. "Well, I'll—uh—I'll see you around." He left you with a friendly pat on the shoulder. Peter snorted to himself in disappointment as he recognized what used to be a warm embrace had turned into an awkward physical gesture.
