when you woke up the next morning, you were energized and ready to go. you weren't that type of person to still be tired in the morning, unlike your two brothers. "good morning y/n! janie said, greeting you with a smile downstairs.
"good morning to you too, janie, you replied, kindly like usual. you never were mean to anybody, but as your brother told you, people could take advantage of that, so you were still cautious, at least a little bit.
rose definitely took advantage of you, but with charles, you didn't think he was doing that, he was being nice to you for real. the smell of pancakes was so good, you were getting hungry from that.
charles chuckled. "super hungry, y/n?" you nodded. "they smell so good. and it has been a while since i've had aunt janie's pancakes." janie laughed. "thanks n/n. could you go wake up your brother for me?"
"yeah, of course."
it was going to be hard, but you liked a challenge, and waking up danny for sure was one of them. he sort of was a deep sleeper and m/n struggled so much getting her own son up. d/n was a deep sleeper too, so he must've inherited it from his dad.
"danny! wake up! you said, shaking him a few times. he groaned. "whattt?" you smiled. "time for breakfast, big bro." he sighed, but got up, yawning as he did so. you laughed softly as the two of you went downstairs.
"that was easy, you commented, entering the dining room to eat breakfast. all the boys seemed to be extremely hungry, they were eating pretty fast. "slow down, you might choke, you told the boys calmly.
the younger boys saw you more of a mother figure than janie, who was kind to them, but not as much as you. "thank you for helping out, y/n, janie thanked. "no problem, you replied sweetly. "i love children."
janie grinned at you, before going into the kitchen. you really did love children, so this was all pretty easy for you. one of your dreams was to be a mother someday, for now, this would do.
you would admit that the younger boys were strange, and sort of troubled. you weren't judging based on their pasts, but based on their characteristics, if they were a challenge, you were willing to face them.
danny sat down and began to eat, he seemed to be hungry too, like everyone else. you understood, the pancakes were incredible. d/n loved to cook, as well as your mother. guess it was in the family.
you continued eating, eddie was telling another weird story, but as usual, you listened. it was better that way. he seemed so happy when you were listening, like someone actually cared for him, besides janie.
you finished eating, and you were pretty sure you were the first one done. "wow, you must've been really hungry, chucky joked. you laughed. "guess i was." he laughed."i don't blame you, miss janie's pancakes are delicious."
you giggle, and danny gave you a worried look. you rolled your eyes, knowing he still didn't trust your friend. "danny, i need to talk to you, alone, you told him. he nodded then followed you into a different room.
"how come you still don't trust charles? you ask, crossing your arms. "n/n, i know he is taking advantage of you! he blurted. you frowned. "danny, he is the only one besides you and our family that has ever been there for me... i know he isn't."
danny sighed."if he really makes you that happy y/n, then i will trust you." you smiled, eyes widened in happiness as you hugged your older brother. you loved and cherished moments like these.
"i'm sorry i was being so protective of you, he apologized. "no, i like that, but please trust me on this one, okay? you begged. he playfully rolled his eyes."alright y/n." you squealed momentarily, now another worry off your plate.
danny had always been protective of you, but more after the death of your father. you liked it, for the most part, but sometimes, his overprotectiveness was annoying. m/n thought it was cute, though.
of course she did. seeing her two oldest children get along was adorable in her eyes, she was a mother after all. "but if he does do something sketchy... danny started. you groaned."i know, you'll beat him up. got it."
he laughed. "you know me so well." you playfully hit his arm."dingus, we're siblings." he sighed, then laughed along with you. at that moment, danny wanted to protect you, as much as he could.
danny felt horrible, he spent most of his childhood with d/n, and you? not a lot of years. danny thought he owed you and d/n by protecting you, he promised d/n shortly before he died. after the divorce, things had definitely changed.
and then, that call...
"hold on guys, i have to take this call, m/n said, pausing the movie you guys were watching, jack was taking a nap, finally. being 3 years old and stubborn. you turned and saw m/n started to cry. you were worried.
tomorrow was friday, despite it being summer, you still liked those days because you went to d/n's home every weekend. that was how the custody went at the divorce settlement. you turned back to the sofa, your brother looking at you assuringly.
m/n walked to the front of the tv, her eyes wet from tears. you were worried on why she was crying. "y/n, danny... m/n started. "i have some bad news." "what is it mom? danny asked, he was only 13 at the time.
"your father just died, in a car accident."
you sighed, thinking of that memory that still hunts you to this day, it had been 3 years and you still couldn't move on. you could tell danny thought about it too, he didn't have a pleasant look on his face.
it was a sad look.
"are you okay, danny? you asked your brother. he shrugged. I'm fine, don't worry about me." you sighed."okay. i believe you."
you knew very well he wasn't actually okay, you could see it in his eyes.
