Fabray Estate

Brittany and Artie had remained at the hospital after arriving with Sam and though Brittany didn't want to risk seeing Santana, she wanted to stay in close proximity to Quinn. After pacing around for a long time, she finally mustered up the courage to sneak a peek through the vision panel and her heart broke at the sight of Quinn so battered.

It wasn't long before Rachel and Sam came out to the corridor and informed them that Quinn was still in a coma. Seeing that all Brittany did was repent and worry to the point of tears, Artie finally convinced the girl to return home. There was nothing they could do and he assured her that they would come back at the first notice of a change in Quinn's condition.

It was only midday when they returned to the Fabray Estate, but it already felt much longer. They were greeted by Martha's fuming face as soon as they stepped through the door.

"Have you found Santana? Have you seen that wench, Quinn?" Martha barked.

Brittany looked down wordlessly.

"Is your father with her too? Is that wench dead?"

"Mrs. Fabray," Artie interjected. "We've just returned from the hospital. Quinn barely survived, she's in very critical condition. We're all very worried about her. The doctor said the next two days determine whether or not she'll recover successfully. That's why Mr. Fabray and Sam are still at the hospital."

"What kind of doctor?" Martha scoffed. "The doctor must be in cahoots with her, that wench has lots of tricks under her sleeve!"

"Mama, please stop calling Quinn a wench," Brittany frowned. "She's Papa's daughter and my sister, please be more kind for our sake."

"You useless lass. She stole your girlfriend once before and she's doing it now again. This time, she snatched her at your engagement party! You may tolerate this embarrassment, but I won't! This is humiliating yet you're still speaking up for her!"

Brittany's head swung to one side as the sound of the slap rang against her cheek.

"Mrs. Fabray, you can't solve anything by hitting Brittany!" Artie exclaimed.

"This is none of your business!" Martha spat.

Their loud voices startled Kitty and the younger girl rushed down the steps into the tense room. "Mama, can't you be more tolerant? We're all angry for Brittany over what happened with Santana. But if Quinn really lost her life for this engagement, there's nothing Brittany can do to stop their feelings."

"Exactly. Kitty's right," Artie scowled. "If Quinn dies then everyone would be sad. Especially Brittany."

Brittany nodded in agreement, silently thankful that Artie was speaking up for her.

"You don't think I know what you're thinking?" Martha accosted. "You think just because my husband said he's betrothing Brittany to you that you're able to spew nonsense in my house? Out of the way! I'm going to settle scores with that old wench, Judy!" She grabbed her purse and headed for the door.

Brittany stepped back to block her path. "Mama, I'm telling you right now, I don't want Santana anymore. The betrothal is null," she said firmly. "This has nothing to do with Santana or Quinn, it's my decision. My daydream about Santana ended today. So please don't go to settle scores with anyone.
