The high, cold waves of the sea broke violently against the dark, weathered rock. Between the steep cliff stood a high fortress, barely distinguishable from the shiny black rock below. On the upper floors the chill wind howled, heard only by two people huddled several cells away from each other.Nurmengard's famous prison towered over the mountains of Northern Eruropa, looming over the stormy sea like a giant. Two hooded figures struggled up the cliff.

"Do you really think he will help us?" asked the man a few inches shorter, pulling his hood more towards his face.

"Yes, I'm sure." replied the elder, smoothing his long damp beard. Splashes of waves hit his back.

"Unless he's dead." Severus Snape whispered as he looked up at the high stone entrance before them. A deep engraving read: For the Greater Good

"No, he's alive." Albus Dumbledore replied, crossing the entrance with a sweeping stride, followed by the potionist.

The steep steps were barely visible, Snape pulled out his wand trying to summon a simple Lumos, but nothing happened. Dumbledore gave him a quick glance, stopping halfway up the second ramp.

"The antimagic barriers are active right from the path that runs along the sea." he explained him before starting to climb again.

"So we can't defend ourselves?" He asked in a hoarse voice

"There won't be any need." he tried to reassure the headmaster by accelerating his pace. When they finally got to the top of the tower they both stopped and put a hand on the side walls, panting.

"Now I understand why you insisted on bringing him here." Snape admitted, straightening himself. Dumbledore just nodded before pulling a small golden key out of his robe and inserting it into a large, dust-covered lock. The second door on the right swung open, scraping the ground. Inside the dark cell, only the silhouettes of a small bed and a tangle of clothes in one corner could be seen. It took them both a few seconds to realize that the crumpled gray shirt was attached to the thin body of a young man, who had his head down, covered by his pale arms.

"Byron?" Dumbledore whispered uncertainly, taking a step towards the dark shape.

The man rose with an almost grotesque slowness from the floor, his arms fell wearily along his narrow hips, his slender legs trembled slightly as they straightened.

"Dumbledore." he greeted him in a faint voice. The face almost entirely covered by a thick dark beard revealed only the light eyes and the straight nose.Snape stood in the doorway of the cell looking at the prisoner with a twisted face.

"Why are you here?"

"I wanted to see how you were doing." Dumbledore answered with a hint of a smile.

"Just like the last time we met." he replied before coughing sadly.

"You see, you look like a rotten worm." Snape commented with a grimace.

Byron slowly turned his head towards him, his dark beard trembling.

"Look who's talking, with your crow's nose."The potionist glared at him.Dumbledore absently smoothed his damp robe.

"I guess you heard it."Byron glanced at both of them before nodding. "The Dark Lord."

"He's back, and now he's got a new body." Snape intervened, looking at the wall in front of him."You heard it too." Byron instinctively put a hand on his left arm. "Have you already seen him?" He asked, widening his eyes.

"Yes, I saw him." he whispered."I would have liked to see him."

Byron said sadly, leaning his back against the cold wall.

Dumbledore leaned forward. "We need your help to stop him."

"Stop him?" The boy's voice grew higher. "You know he can't be stopped."

"We can instead, it won't be like last time." he hastened to say Dumbledore.

"Really? Will it be different this time because you have a fourteen-year-old boy?" Byron asked, tilting his head."Harry is young, but I have faith in him." he said forcefully. "You finally have a chance to avenge your family, don't let them die in vain."

"My wife and daughter did not die in vain." Byron's eyes twitched. "It was the Aurors' negligence that killed them. I was working for the Ministry, for you." he said hoarsely, holding back a scream. "It's your fault I'm here."

"It is not Dumbledore's fault that you are here and have done what you have done." Snape interjected taking a few steps inside the cell.

"For real?" Byron asked, narrowing his eyes. "Last time you were on the other side, kneeling before the man who ruined my life." He snapped his back from the wall "But now I finally understand, you wanted power, revenge and I wanted it too. I served the Dark Lord better than anyone else and now you ask me to betray him in the name of two corpses buried by years?"

Dumbledore's face darkened "I ask you to help me protect Harry, Voldemort will hunt him now more than ever. "

"I do not care." He just said Byron as he turned his head to the worn bed.

"He is Lily's son." Snape whispered, clenching his hand into a fist inside the pocket.
