'Natasha says we're leaving tonight,' Yelena sighed drawing shaped in the dirt with a stick she had found on your adventures.
'When will you be back?' You couldn't imagine time without your best friend by your side, little did you both know this would be the last time you saw each other.
'Hopefully not too long. I don't want to leave you,' Yelena jumped wrapping her arms around you, knocking you both to the ground. Your giggling died down when you noticed the silent tears falling down Yelena's cheeks. Nothing had to be said between the two of you as you wiped away her tears, holding her face in between your hands.
'I love you,'
'I love you too...'

'...Yelena?' You were surprised to see your former best friend walking through the compound following Natasha. The woman who plagued your mind for many years after she left, all of your memories and feelings rushing back to the front of your mind.
It was like the pair of you were never separated. Natasha confiding in you about her past made it easier for you and Yelena. You already had an idea of the pain and suffering Yelena had gone through, but you were determined to show her that life can be just like old times. Whenever you could you were joined at the hip. Recreating childhood adventures, building blanket and pillow forts and watching all of your favourite movies.
'I missed this. I missed you,' You broke the comfortable silence that had fallen over the two of you. You'd both come back from your morning run and were cuddled up on the couch watching a movie, waiting for the others to get up for the day. Yelena nodded in agreement, a small kiss placed against your temple as she held you closer, afraid of losing you again.
'Love is for suckers...yet I can't stop thinking about you,' Yelena's words intrigued you so you looked up at her, her eyes trained on the screen in front of you.
'Lena?' You questioned when you realised those words were meant to stay unspoken
'I said that out loud, didn't I?' you confirmed with a nod of your head, 'It's what I was taught, but when it comes to you I don't think that's true. You never once left my mind. Even through everything, when my mind wasn't my own, I could always remember you. That has to mean something right? With you in my mind it only made me stronger. It helped me survive all those years of pain and suffering,' Yelena paused trying to collect her thoughts and process everything she wanted to tell you, 'All those years ago when I told you that I love you...I still love you now. I know we've both been through a lot and we've also changed but I feel like we've gotten back most of what we used to have,'
'I agree. I hated that I couldn't get you out of my head. Not knowing if I'd ever see you again, it crushed me to think that I would have to live without you by my side. The universe has a funny way of working, it brought us back together again,' You smiled, it was bittersweet. All those missed years it wasn't fair, but at least you had Yelena right in front of you. Holding Yelena's hand in your own, entwining your fingers, hoping you wouldn't lose each other again.
'Y/N, I still love you. I'm willing to work through everything as long as it means I get to have you by my side again, more than friends this time,' Yelena's smile was hopeful, wanting you to confirm with your words that you felt the same way Yelena did.
'I thought we already were more than friends, even back then,' You laughed at the confused expression on Yelena's face. Thinking back to all of your interactions as kids, slowly realising the love you held for each other back then was deeper than she thought, 'Lena remember when you made us fall, you fell on top of me. We stared a little too long into each others eyes for it to just be platonic,'
