Chapter 2
Ellen
The ground was coming at her fast and the wind was whipping her hair in various directions as she fell. Maybe I should just chop it all off. Her mind pondered the thought again. What would her family back in Mauville City think of that? She looked over her shoulder; she must have fallen a thousand feet. Below her was a river. She didn’t know how deep it was, not that it would matter. The girl closed her eyes; she loved the way it felt to be weightless. A slight shift in the wind told her that her free fall was almost over. Three, two, one. Her stomach hit metal hard and she was pulled in another direction. “Good job, Skarmory, that’s a new record I think.” She called to her metal bird. He screeched as a response as he glided down to the ground.
Ellen leapt off the bird when they were at an appropriate height and lightly hit the ground. Skarmory landed silently beside her a few moments later and nudged her with his beak. She paid him no heed knowing that he wanted to go again. “Take a break. I want to watch the others for a bit.” Skarmory clicked his jaws in protest. Ellen eyed him with annoyance and he ceased then walked over to the river. Ellen shook her head slightly and turned her attention to the rest of her team. Kirlia was sparing with Delcatty, a normal matchup for them. Breloom was busy beating up a nearby tree using a mixture of Sky Uppercut and Dynamic punch.
Ellen glanced around the clearing for her partner. “Rain! Where are you?” A blast of water alerted the trainer and she immediately ducked. In her peripheral vision Ellen saw the trail of an Aqua Jet shoot bye. She looked up in time to see the water projectile turn and slam into her, forcing her onto her back. A pokémon was now sitting on top of her clearly impressed with itself. “All right, Rain, you got me.” She patted the Vaporeon on her head before it jumped off of Ellen’s stomach. She stood, dripping wet from the attack. “Are you going to do that every day?”
“Vaporeon!” Her partner barked sharply. In Ellen’s mind she knew that meant ‘yes’. The girl sighed and took off her red jacket to hang over a branch. Her cropped t-shirt and grey jeans would just have to dry on her person. Rain flicked her long tail at Ellen’s feet. Ellen looked down at her. Rain turned her head to where Ellen had left Sneasel to train on his own. He, of course, was no longer there. Again.
“Shit!” Ellen spat. “Not again.” She ran over to the tree that Sneasel had been assigned to follow the same exercise that Breloom was doing. There were slash marks three inches deep into the large oak. The pokémon had clearl done the exercise for a while. This Sneasel was proving to be more difficult to work with than any of her team members. Ellen studied the tree more closely. She trailed her hand over the bark until her finger slid into a deep hole. “He climbed!” A rush of cold wind hit her and she looked up. Sneasel stared down at her from a high branch.
The branches of the tree might be strong enough to hold the small weasel-like pokémon, but Ellen knew that any attempt at climbing after him would result in a snapping branch. If not that then Sneasel would undoubtedly attack her with Blizzard or Slash. “Okay Sneasel, you had your fun, get down here.”
He hissed at her making slashing movements. Ellen crossed her arms. “Kirlia, a little assistance please.” The small, child-like pokémon gracefully walked over to her side. “Psychic, don’t hurt him, just get him down.” Kirlia nodded and her eyes began to glow a light blue. Delcatty, Breloom, and Skarmory all stopped training and approached them to watch. Ellen knew that they were always impressed with Kirlia’s psychic abilities. Well, everyone except Rain who was looking up at Sneasel with calculating eyes, clearly thinking of another way to get him down. Ellen glanced between the two pokémon on the ground. Kirlia may have great ability, but it took her some time to use it properly and Rain knew it. Instantly, the dog leapt into an Aqua Jet aimed right at Sneasel.
