You once told me that the human eye is god's loneliest creation. How so much of the world passes through the pupil and still it holds nothing. The eye, alone in its socket, doesn't even know there's another one, just like it, an inch away, just as hungry, as empty.

Ocean Vuong / On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous

There was an irking duality to the supernatural world. A whole chasm of contention lies between being introduced to it and being born into it. When you're born into it; when you're aware of your differences from normal people, real people, those tiny things that divulge your paths, each taking you a fraction farther from humanity, a hard truth settles itself into your bones from an early age: you cannot leave this behind. You are born, perhaps a witch, or perhaps a werewolf, and as you grow, you are carved to play a role. There is no option but to play it, and the first and most important rule is this:

You have to stay hidden.

Whatever happens, the humans must not see you. They must not see your strength and they must not see your magic and they must not see how different you are. The words following this, with as much clarification children need, are simple: humans fear things they don't understand, and magic does not fit into their narrative. You are not part of their world, but that's fine because you have your own world. It's a tiny world but that's fine too because it's full of people like you. People that will always have your back . . .

That is . . . until you grow up, and then they don't have your back. That's the catch. A vow kept true for years, broken just like that. And because you're grown up, you can't blame them either. You can't blame your coven. People are always devising things, and even though mom and dad have taught you to be wary, you get tangled up in your great plans. You get caught in someone else's game.

But that's also fine. There's another catch: in the supernatural world, your tiny world, nobody is truly ahead of the game. No singular party is looking at the big picture. They've all got one thing in common: self-interest.

You know you cannot leave this behind. You know there is no moving on. You know you have to play the role you were assigned at birth. You know you have to hide.

The best move is to watch from the side and let the others fight it out.

honestly this is the plot. ^

....
I don't even know what to say. tvd fic. never ever thought I'd write one much less actually publish it. blame this entirely on aster. i have written around 15k words for this fic BUT all that I wrote I pushed to the second act so now I have nothing for the first act... 😪

this started out as an oc x bekah then oc x Kol now it's oc x klaus even now it's subject to change. All that's certain is that Reese is overpowered beyond overpowered because that's how I like my characters.

Also excuseeeee the synopsis it took me WEEKS to write judge this from the prelude one of my fave parts of the story
