On thin ice

Back to school blues

Deja vu ran through Luz's brain as she stood at the front doors to Hexide. Winter break was over. Luz groaned and pushed the doors open. There were students going to their dorms to settle back in. Obviously the Latina would do the same.

Luz made her way to the...stairs. She groaned again and this time making herself the center of attention. Everyone went back to what they were doing and Luz threw her duffle bag on her shoulder and tackled the stairs which she surprisingly got better at.

She made it to her dorm and it was already unlocked. Then it hit her. She shared a room. A room with Amity Blight. The same blight she kissed on New Years. Thinking about that moment made Luz blush. It was fine, they could just act like nothing happened. She took a deep breath and walked in.

There she was. Amity blight. Already done unpacking. She jumped when she heard the girl enter. "Oh hey Luz, I didn't see you", amity said nervously. "Yeah blight, I am capable of being quiet sometimes", Luz chuckled, throwing her things on her bed. "Wow really?", Amity said sarcastically. She grabbed her things for her first class. "By the way, my dad wanted me to tell you that there's gonna be a lot of practices and they will be long so good luck", she said patting Luz's shoulder and walking out.

Luz just watched her leave the dorm. All Luz could think was 'wow'. Luz looked at the time and decided to actually attend class. Being on break and coming back made her realize how much she really didn't like school. Luz grabbed her bag and walked out, dragging herself to her first period.

~Time skip~

Luz POV:
Yep I definitely hate school. First period was bio and that made me wanna shoot myself. The teacher talks for hours and I fall asleep every time. Then I had pre calc which I barely even understood. Maybe I should pay more attention in that class instead of playing Subway Surfers. I have to beat my high score, though, I did fail the last test but that won't matter.

At least I have free period for 3rd. I worked on that song for me and amity, if she's still up for it. Hopefully she's still up for it. No, she'll definitely be up for it still. I see amity walk up to our lunch table. This is my chance to ask, it shouldn't be hard. "Sup blight", i say as amity sits down. "Hey Luz, glad to see you're awake", she said laughing. I fell asleep in English today.

We were reading some boring novel and I just so happened to doze off. "I'm surprised that you weren't sleep. Actually I'm not. You're amity blight, top student", I said mocking the title she hated. "Ha ha so funny", she said rolling her eyes. We sat and ate lunch along with our other friends and made small talk. I never asked my question...damn it.

~Time skip againnnn~
I was sitting on the bench lacing up my skates. Honestly I was glad to have practice again. It's a great distraction from all that was going on. Once they were laced up I skated over to the line. Coach blew the whistle. Oh no. "Okay, now you've all had a nice break, but now it's time for work", he said. "Suicides go!". We all groaned and started our suicides.

Amity POV:
I was bored since Luz was at practice. I could go to the library. Yeah, sounds good. I grab a couple things and headed out, leaving the room unlocked so Luz wouldn't worry about getting back in. The library was usually empty, a couple of students here and there.

If you came to the library you would most likely see me there. I love reading. Especially the great witch azura series. Along with fan fiction but no one else needs to know that. I find my usual table and open up a new series I just started. As I was reading the world around me started to shrink into my own personal space.

That's until someone I despised invited themself in. "Oh amity what a pleasant surprise", Jessica Clayton said. I scoffed. "Nothing about you is pleasant Jessica". "Woah, what's with the hostility? I thought we were friends", Jessica said pretending to be hurt. "Yeah right. You and me? Friends? Don't get your uniform in a bunch", I said getting up to leave. "Leaving so soon?", she said walking behind me. "Yes now goodbye", I said trying to turn a corner but she grabbed my shoulder.
