Jake snapped awake. He must've fallen asleep in Winter's cabin and dreamt of his dead friends. They had died about a year ago, but he didn't give up on their mission. He sighed and sat up. He rubbed his eyes and glanced around. He noticed it was dark and cold. He also noted that Winter was sleeping in a little cot. He smiled faintly at her peacefully sleeping. He laid back down on his side and thought quietly to himself of everything going on, but before long he had fallen completely asleep again
The next morning, the pair slept in awhile. Jake awoke first. He sighed, rubbed his eyes as he let out a yawn, then got to his feet. He started to cook, but since Winter had little supplies to cook with, Jake used his fire powers to create a small fire and cook some breakfast. Winter awoke to the aroma of meat and eggs.
"Th-that smells good..." Winter commented after arising out of her bed.
"Well, I would hope so." Jake chuckled as he pulled the pan off the fire and put the flames out. "Hope you like squirrel!" He grinned lightly. Winter stifled a few giggles as they sat down at a oak table.
"Th-thank you for c-cooking..."
"No problem!" Jake started to dig into his food while Winter ate her a bit slower. When they were finished, Winter grabbed the plates and took them to a rusting sink.
"I have to leave soon." Jake told Winter as she washed dishes. The girl frowned.
"W-why?" Jake paused. He couldn't tell her the real reason. He then shook his head and glanced off.
"Can't say." He didn't even try to tell her a lie, expecting her to see right through him.
"Oh..." was all Winter replied with.
Things were silent while Winter put the dishes away. Winter harshly interrupted the stillness in the room.
"I need to tell y-you something." Winter blurted out. The male raised an eyebrow.
"What is it?" He questioned the white-haired girl.
"I-I..." She suddenly became nervous. "Well..." She sighed and thought over her words. "I-I feel a c-connection between us...a-and...I dunno....I-I think I-I like y-you, b-but..." Winter sighed and looked to the floor.
Jake's eyebrows knitted together then unfolded.
"Fire and ice.... It won't work..."
Winter sighed and nodded lightly. "B-but y-you're the first..." She added softly in her tender voice. Jake thought over his options: break her heart, or try to mend his.
"Fine. We can try it." The male gave a thin grin to the ice girl. Winter's eyes widened happily.
"R-really?!" Jake bobbed his head.
"Only because I feel the connection too."
