"Come on. Just one."

"Beto, stop it." Luca bit down the smile that spread across his face. He turned away once again towards the front. "I'm trying to finish washing the dishes, please!"

"I know you find me completely irresistible," Alberto grinned as he leaned on the counter with both of his arms. "Just a little one. Come on, right here," he said, tapping his lips with an index finger.

"Irresistible is an interesting way to say annoying."

Alberto scoffed, shaking his head before breaking off into a lazy grin. "I love it when you play hard to get, Bubble."

Luca looked at Alberto from the corner of his eyes. "Don't you have fish to go catch or someone else to go bother?" he asked as a small amused smile tugged at his lips.

"Maybe, but nothing is more important than begging for my gorgeous boy to bless me with one of his sweet kisses."

"Sweet kisses?" Luca coyly looked over his shoulder, hoping the bright color of his cheeks wouldn't betray him. "How do you know they're sweet if you've never kissed me?"

"Because I've tasted them every night in my dreams." Alberto leaned in close to Luca's ear, pulling him close by his waist. "Won't you help me make my dreams come true?"

"Beto, please!" Luca giggled as he raised his shoulders up to hide his face, playful nudging Alberto away. "You're going to make me drop this plate!"

"A small price to pay for my happiness."

"I'm being serious! Plus I'll get all wet."

"Ah yes, water. The mortal enemy of the sea monster."

"Oh shut up."

Summer had brought Luca and Alberto to a strange place that year. Stuck somewhere in a contradicting limbo that expected them to be between mature, young men but remain youthful, little boys. It was an awkward age filled with cracking voices, growing chin hairs, greasy faces with red dots, and most importantly, new feelings. Feelings that had been festering inside their chests for some time now.

Flirting was the boys new favorite pastime. Who had started this silly game? Neither really knew. Maybe it was Alberto, who always wanted to find new ways to impress Luca. Or perhaps it was Luca, who wanted to show Alberto that despite their one year difference, he was growing up, too. In the end it didn't really matter, because there seemed to be no end to it. It had merely become part of their daily summer routine: wake up, eat, swim, jump off cliffs, look at the stars, and flirt.

It was exciting at first with the cheesy grins, the flushed cheeks, and their hands anxiously brushing against each other. The anchovies that swam in their stomachs always made it worth the stupid feeling that came from spouting a nonsensical compliment. It was embarrassing, wonderful, ridiculous, and perfection all wrapped together.

"Just kiss me already, tesoro." Alberto kept his arm loosely around Luca, while burying his face into Luca's curls. "Or what? Don't tell me you're scared you might like it and want more? Because, trust me, that won't be an issue for me."

"Tell me." Luca delicately placed the new washed plate away before turning to look at Alberto. Their noses nearly brushed up against each other. "Does that work?"

"Huh? W-Work?" Alberto stuttered out. Heat began to spread across his cheeks as he grew overly conscious of the way Luca's eyes traveled up and down his face. "Heh, what do you mean?"
