After we walked out of the forest in silence, it was already night, we headed to our house, a tall amanita mascaria mushroom, with crystals hanging from the hat part, and different coloured silk glass windows, and a giant log that was hollowed out and had our kitchen and living room.
We opened the oak door and went to the kitchen, as my mom started washing her hands to make dinner, I went up our spiral staircase and into dad's room, by now, it had dust and cobwebs in the corners, and a few boxes of stuff we put away over the years, then I noticed something on the dresser, it was a book, a red book with gold words, and a lyre, the one that my dad would use to sing me to sleep at night. I grabbed both of them and ran into my room across the hall, I sat on my weaved red cushioned chair beside my table and turned on my firefly light, I blew off the dust of the book and there were words, but I couldn't read them, they were in a different language, so I went back to his room and rummaged in a box,
"Come on..." I said, carefully pulling papers out of the box, "there has to be something..."
"Aha!"
I pulled out a piece of old paper, it was music, lyre music,
I brought it to my room, and started on the first note, once I played it, it felt like a million memories were coming back to me, I kept playing, until I heard my mom calling for me to eat dinner.
I went down the stairs, and got utensils,
"Today," she said, putting the food on our table, "we have unideer and glowot soup, shiitake rice, and your favourite raspberry rum jam on pink salt kelp veggie balls."
"Thanks mom," I sighed, sitting down, "it looks delicious, like always."
As we ate, I kept wondering about the language, and the black substance, until I had to ask, at least about the language, but not like obviously, or mom would get mad at me for looking at dad's stuff.
"So, mom..." I said, eating a piece of unibear horn,
"Yeah?"
"Did... dad ever speak a language that isn't this one?"
"Oh?" she breathed, not paying much attention, "why are you asking?"
"Oh, I Dunno." I laughed, hoping I wasn't giving anything away, "just wondering."
"Well, there was one-"
"Really???" I blurted, standing up, "what's it called? Can you teach me?"
My mom looked at me startled, but then calmed down and stared at her plate, "aren't you excited to learn something new?"
I sat back down, "well can you teach me?" I said, emphasising the word 'can.'
"Hmm... well no." she chuckled calmly, "it's ancient fungunese, what the mushroomians used to speak, not many know it anymore, since me and my friends, the elf's, moved here."
"Oh."
"Eat dinner first my little flower, remember you have to watch the lighthouse today at 8:30."
Oh, I completely forgot...
I smiled a sad smile, sat down, quickly ate my food, and disappeared into my room, at the speed of light, once I got there, I smacked the translation sheet on my table,
"let's get started!"
