SUBURBAN HOUSTON.
4:10 PM.
AMORA.

"why you ain't talking to me, lil folks nem? what i do?" von questioned, coming up behind me. i continued to apply the cherry red lipstick, rolling my eyes.

we were getting ready for date night. fridays' are days where our schedules align. we had let emerie play hooky today so we could take her out to breakfast and spend a little time with her before another hectic weekend began.

my husband kissed along my earlobe as i held back a smile. truthfully; i was mad at von because emerie has been telling us about this event her school is having. some daddy daughter dance.

don't know why they don't have a mommy daughter dance because we'd totally eat the girls up. i don't care about little kindergartners egos, but anyways.

von has been totally blowing her off because he doesn't like dressing up and code-switching for the snobby teachers. and plus he thinks it's-

"ma, you still mad at me for that soft ass dancing shit at emmie school? i can dance wit' my baby in the living room for free, fuck i gotta pay $35 to dress up for?" he stuffed his head in my neck, before lightly biting my neck.

"memories, dayvon. my baby is going to first grade next year and don't you think you should participate in more...fatherly things?" i softened my tone, clasping the dangly diamond rock around my ear.

he moved away from my body. a mug swiped over von's face but i justified my rhetorical questioned before he could cuss me out even more.

"i mean, look at how smurk is with his baby girls! he did face masks with bella and willow! different shit outside your comfort zone could help you guys grow closer."

i wrapped my arms around his neck and looked up into his low eyes, pupils dilated from the wood we had finished not too long ago. i made sure to emote what i'm saying through my eyes, just so he knows i'm serious.

"i can say i'll do it all day, but ion know if ima carry out with that shit. socializing without gang 'nem not really my feel." i felt his hands travel to down my lower back.

"remember my first tattoo?" i questioned. he seemed to be confused until replying, "yeah. folks nem wild as hell. a tramp stamp and it was my name. you ever get that shit covered up?" he cheesed.

his smile took me back. the way that smile convinced me we were gonna be together forever while i laid on that tattoo table. it's funny now because we have a whole life with one another.
