Monty trekked down to parts and services, only allowing Gregory outside his stomach once they were out of sight.

"Alright, kid, camera control should be over on that computer." Monty gestured towards a giant monitor that looked like it was built in the '80s.

Gregory raised a brow, wiping off the layered dust with his hand, "Man, why is this thing so old? Does it even work?" The boy coughed, waving a hand in front of his face.

Monty shrugged, "It should, like ah' said half the building has gone to shit. Plus, if we wanted an updated monitor, we'd have to go to the security offices, which is where Vanessa likely is."

The child sighed, dragging a chair in front of the computer as he waited for it to boot up, fingers tapping impatiently.

"There we go." He muttered, typing rapidly as Monty watched curiously from behind.

The child opened his bag, pulling out a few cords, attaching one end into his Fazwatch and the other into his computer.

"What's that for?" The reptile questioned, eyes burning with childlike wonder.

The boy glanced back at him with a raised brow, "I'm linking the cameras to my watch; it'll be easier to keep an eye on things here. Plus, I can loop the feed if security notices they're working again. Otherwise, I've got most of the cameras fixed, some weird software bug. The remainder either need new wires or lenses, something we'll have to do physically instead of remotely."

Monty nodded as if he understood everything the kid just said, "Yep, got it. Understood."

Gregory chuckled, "You didn't understand anything I just said, did ya?"

Monty rubbed his neck, looking away with slight embarrassment, "Ah' uh...no, not really. I'm honestly not that smart; my AI is less advanced than the others, so..."

The boy tilted his head, "Less advanced, why would they make you like that? Also, how can you tell the others are more intelligent?"

Monty shifted, tail flicking against the floor, "Never really asked why mostly assumed it was for some reason or another. And ah' know they are, ah' get lost whenever they start conversing about most topics unless it's music and such."

The boy's eyes narrowed, "You get lost, or they don't let you talk?"

Monty flinched, fingers automatically clasping, "A-ah'... a bit of both, ah' don't mind. But ah' stopped tryin to get close to them a while ago, they don't like me much."

Gregory huffed, crossing his arms, "You let them treat you like crap. Stand up for yourself, just once. It'll make you feel better, promise."

Monty smiled, fluffing the small child's hair, "Okay, okay, I'll try alright, just because ya asked."

Gregory went quiet for a moment, eyes narrowing, "So...why was there a body rotting in the daycare? Just what is wrong with Sun?"

Monty flinched, pulling his hands close to his chest, "Ya saw one...sorry kid, ya' shouldn't have had to witness that. Ah' can't say precisely when, but Sun became possessive to an extreme degree at some point. If a parent were late, even by a little, he'd keep the child. He doesn't do it every time, but he has a collection, to say the least."

"How has nobody noticed? Why do you even know?"

The reptile twiddled his thumbs, searching for the correct response, "It's because nobody cares enough to do anything. Trust me, ah' tried, but they wrote off any concern like Sun was simply quirky and not a psycho. This place is the very definition of a hellhole, and it's only getting worse with every passing day."
