The Almost Kiss

The beeping sound of an alarm woke Rose up. She slipped out of bed and got ready for school. She grabbed her bag and headed out the door. She was about 5 blocks away from school when a car pulled up next to her. She glanced at the car and saw it was Nick driving. He rolled down the window and asked if she wanted a ride. Rose agreed and quickly got in the car. She didn't feel declining and having to walk the rest of the way.

"Hey Rose. So...are you ready for our date tomorrow?" He asked, smiling at her.

" Uhh yeah. All good to go" She nervously said. She had never been on a date before. She didn't know what to expect.

She looked out the window and saw they were at school already. She secretly watched Nick and how focused he was while driving. He pulled into the school parking lot and parked his car.

"Thanks for giving me a ride Nick" She smiled at him.

"You're welcome," he said looking at her. They just stared at each other for what felt like too long. She took in all his features. "God he was so hot," She thought. She was always thinking that to be honest. She noticed he was getting closer to her face. Next thing she knew they were almost kissing. She could feel his breath on her face. They were so close. She started to lean in a little bit to connect their lips. They brushed against each other when the morning bell suddenly went off. Rose jumped apart from him and nervously laughed.

"W-we should probably...uhh..g-get to class" She stuttered. She unbuckled her seatbelt and started to open the door.

"Rose..wait" She heard Nick say. Rose was already out the door and quickly said "Thanks for the ride!"

She closed the car door and rushed off to class. She blushed so hard it looked like she was sunburnt. She found herself always a blushing mess around him. "Oh my god...we almost kissed...I almost kissed Nick Mossman. Oh my fucking god" She thought to herself.

Nick was a little disappointed he didn't get to kiss her. She was like a dream to him. She didn't seem real. No one had ever really tried to get to know him. She was always on his mind. Just the simple thought of her made him want to be a better person. His juvie days were behind him now. He never really did anything that bad. People didn't know that though. He wasn't about to tell them that either. The only thing he did was vandalize some buildings. He never thought he would feel this way for a girl. Nick realized he had been sitting in his car for a little bit too long. He got out and headed to class.

During all of Rose's classes, all she could think about was the almost kiss with Nick. Finally the bell for lunch rang and she went to go find Nadine. She saw her in the cafeteria line and walked up to her. They got their lunch and went to go sit outside.

"I almost kissed Nick this morning," Rose blurted out.

"What was that?" Nadine asked.

" I...I almost kissed Nick this morning," Rose repeated.

" Oh my god. Tell me. It's story time and I'm listening" Nadine said to her with her full attention.

"uh well I was walking to school and a car pulled up next to me. I saw it was Nick and he offered me a ride. When he parked the car in school his face was staring right at me. I just thought, is the car getting smaller or is he getting closer? Then his face was right in front of mine. I was gonna kiss him, Nadine. I fucking swear I was gonna do it. But then the bell rang and I ran out"

"Oh my god I'm an idiot" She facepalmed. "Well...I do have a date with him tomorrow..." She said looking at Nadine again.

"You've grown up. My little baby is growing up" Nadine pretended to cry and wipe the tears from her eyes.

"I think...I think I like Erwin," Nadine suddenly said to Rose.

"That's awesome Nadine! I knew it. I can tell he really likes you. I've seen you guys hanging out around school. He looks like he's in love with you" Rose squealed at Nadine.

" Yeah yeah, okay Rose" Nadine sarcastically said.

The bell rang and they both headed off to their last 2 classes. Unfortunately Nick was in her last one. It wasn't a bad thing, but she wanted to avoid him since what happened in the morning. She walked in and sat in the seat she always did. A minute later Nick came in and sat right next to her. He glanced at her and smiled.

"Hi Rose," Nick said.

"H-hey Nick" She stuttered. She looked down at her desk shyly until Nick said her name again.

"Yeah?" She asked.

"Do you want a ride after school? I know you usually walk, but I'd like to give you a ride if that's okay" Nick said to her.

"Uhh...yeah okay. You can give me a ride home" She shyly smiled at him. The teacher walked in and she then focused on writing notes.

The bell rang signaling the end of school. Nick led Rose to his car and they both got in. It was silent for a while until Nick broke the silence.

"Sorry about earlier today. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable" he said.

"No no. It's okay. I wasn't uncomfortable...i-it was just the heat of the moment. It's fine." She told him, blushing a little.

"Okay" he said, glancing at her. "I'll pick you up at six tomorrow for the date. Is that okay? He asked.

"Yeah that's perfect," she smiled. The rest of the ride was silent, but it was a good silence. They kept glancing at each other and smiling. Rose didn't understand how people thought of him as a bad guy. He's actually really nice. At least to her anyway. They finally arrived at her house.

"Thanks for the ride Nick" She smiled at him as she got out of the car. It almost seemed like a daily thing. Nick dropped her off at home. She didn't mind it though. She loved spending time with him.

"No problem. Bye Rose" he replied

"Bye Nick" She waved as she closed the door.

Rose walked inside and cleaned up the mess her mom had made before she went to work. She doesn't know how they haven't fired her yet. She counted 3 bottles of beer and an empty bottle of vodka. She sighed. After she was done she decided to take a shower and finish up her homework. Rose heard her phone beep as soon as she finished it. She saw it was a text from Nadine. She said she was going to hang out with Erwin at his pool.

Rose texted her back saying: Good luck ;)

After that she read for a few hours until it started to get dark. She got into bed and went to sleep before her mom could come home.

A/N- sorry for the short chapter. It was just a filler, but It gets more interesting later ;)
