I go to bed with a whole new view on my life. Was, or is, my dad really an evil revolution leader? Am I really in as much danger as the boy claims I am? What is his name?

Suddenly there is a loud pounding at my door. I know who it is and before I have the chance to say, "come in", my dad opens the door. I smile at him although I just want to tear his throat out. I'd rather not get beat, I'd rather be a fake little daughter for now.

"Hey honey. We're having a dinner party with the Santias tomorrow at 6." He says it so nice and for a moment I have a hard time believing he could be anything but a nice guy. He is a nice guy. He's such a good dad right now.

His happiness makes me happy. I smile at him and say, "What do I need to do?" I love making him smile.

He looks down at me with a loving look. "Well that's the thing Honey, you don't have to do a thing. All I want is for you to dress nicely. Can you do that? A nice little dress and make yourself presentable?"

"Of course." No, I can tell now that that boy is all wrong. My dad may hurt me sometimes but as he says, it's for my own good. Maybe living in the woods has driven him mad. He doesn't even know my dad.

He turns and steps out the door, but hesitates and looks back at me. The look he gives me is cold. "And Karlie? Don't embarrass me or there WILL be consequences." He emphasized that last part.

I gulp a little but I just sit their on my bed and smile at him as he shuts the door. Only he doesn't shut it, he slams it. With his unpredictable mood swings I think, maybe he's not so nice.
