The next morning I am awaken by my dad, throwing a packet of papers at me. I look up and see him standing above me. A collect the papers and read them as he speaks.

"Since you're on independent study for school now, have these finished by the end of the week." With that he steps out of my room. Well okay.

Not to long after that a man enters my room with my dad behind him. He looks like a construction worker.

"Here?" Asks the man pointing to my window.

"Yes." My dad says.

"Dad? What's going on?" I ask. Why are these guys in my room?

"I'm installing security in your room. After what happened last night I don't want anyone getting through your window." He says. Not getting to you, but getting through your window.

The man says something into his radio and three more men carrying metal bars come into my room. They start drilling the bars to my window. I look at them in horror. My room looks like a prison now.

"Good. Now don't worry Karlie. It's for your own good." He says. Oh how I hate that phrase.

The men start to pick up there things to leave when one of them looks at me. His eyes flash something and he gives me a strange smile. I pull the blankets up higher on me, remembering I slept in spandex and a tang top.

My dad tips them some money and  they grab up all of their things. They go over to the window and place more bars to create crisscrosses.

"Why the bars?" I ask my dad worried.

"You know in case someone gets in and tries to get to the rest of the house." He says. "Like what happened last night, I'm pretty sure they came through your window." He just doesn't want me sneaking out.

"Is that necessary?" I ask him truthfully.

He comes over to me and starts yelling in front of the men, "I'll tell you what's necessary. You need to shut up because you know nothing you little bitch. You're just a little girl." He doesn't hit me but he does shoot me daggers and storms downstairs.

The men exchange looks and then pick up there things and leave. The one who smiled at me earlier nods to me like he is agreeing with my dad. Then he leaves. I look out the barred window and see my dad get in his car and go to work.

I run downstairs and go out the backdoor. My dad wants to cage me up. I just need to get out of here. I run off my back porch and I just run.

I run into the woods and when I get near the traps I don't even bother slowing down. I just keep running. I see Jack but I run by him to. I can't think. I need to run forever.

"Karlie?" I hear him yell after me. But nothing stops me, not even the traps that occasionally going off around me. Finally I get tired and fall to the ground on my knees. I let out my tears from last night and start crying. I just ball my eyes out. I hear Jack come running up behind me.

"Karlie? Are you okay? What on earth happened?" He asks sounding extremely concerned. I guess I would be to.

I just shake my head and dry my tears. I stand up and turn to him trying to be strong. He looks at me, eyes full of worry. "Karlie?" He asks. I shake my head again because if I talk I know I can no longer hold back the tears. He comes over and gives me a hug. I let all my weight fall on him and I cry into his shoulder. It just feels so safe in his arms. I don't want to leave. After a while he pulls me away and looks into my eyes.

"What happened?" He asks again.

I dry my tears and say to fast for anyone to understand, "It was his twin. And he knew. And he kidnapped me. And I was almost shot. And... And my dad didn't care."

"Wow, wow. Slow down. Tell me slowly." He says.

"That man from yesterday. The one you shot. His twin had dinner with my dad and I last night. He.. He got the call that his twin died. Later he came back that night and tried to kidnap me but I stabbed him in the shoulder. But his fiancé got me. And then they held me ransom. They cut my arm. He put the gun to my head and was going to shoot me, but my dad got there and took me home. When I woke up this morning he was putting on security, but it was just to keep me inside my room. He wants to cage me up," I finish, finally calming down. Being around Jack made me feel safe, I know he'd never hurt me. I don't even no him very well, but I can tell.

"I know what will take your mind off of it." He offers. I like that he doesn't say everything will be alright, because it won't.

"Yes please, what?" I plead.

"Just follow me," he says and walks away from me. I follow him.

"Jack where are we going?" I ask. He's always so secretive.

At first he doesn't answer, we just walk. "You wanted to know who I am, well let's just say I am showing you a piece of that." I nod and walk next to him. This is a big deal.

We walk for about 10 minutes when I hear something. It sounds like running water. And that's when I realize that the forest got denser and colder.

"Jack what is it?" I ask. It feels great whatever it is.

"You'll see." Is all he says. We come around a group of trees and I see the most beautiful waterfall I've ever seen.
