In the living room.
After Mother Kim was awakened by a well-placed pinch, she sat on a chair with an expressionless face.
Taehyung soundlessly gestured at Jennie and swiped his hand across his neck.
Father Kim was smoking a cigarette as he looked at his daughter. With a sigh, he finally reined in his murderous aura and said to the overwhelmed Lisa: "You, go and feed the pigs."
"Ah...yes...feed the pigs." Lisa was dumbfounded.
"Oy, hurry up and go, the pig food is in the black barrel in the kitchen. Go carry that to the pigsty at the back." Taehyung knew that Father Kim wanted to hold a family meeting, so he hurriedly urged Lisa.
Lisa wasn't comfortable leaving Jennie alone in this situation, but Jennie smiled and motioned him out too.
In the end, Lisa uneasily left for the kitchen.
Jennie scrutinized her mother's face and felt that her old woman body has had enough time to digest the previous series of events. So she began to speak: "Mom, don't be angry."
"How can I not be?" Mother Kim straightened and said, "You...you...with him...when all is said and done..."
"Didn't you already see exactly what's been done?"
"You..." Mother Kim began to feel faint again.
"Mom, calm, calm down." Taehyung hurriedly passed her a cup of tea.
Mother Kim waved away Taehyung and pointed a trembling finger towards Jennie: "You...you...just how did I end up raising such a girl...don't you know the meaning of restraint?"
"Mom, don't worry so much, they're in love and couples nowadays..." Taehyung wanted to help defuse the situation but ended up being scared off by Mother Kim's fierce eyes.
"You're a girl, how can you lack so much self-respect? In my time, you think you'd still be able to marry out?" Mother Kim scolded
"Then I won't get married."
During your time it was also common to be forced into an arranged marriage. In your era, a girl who couldn't marry out would be considered an embarrassment by her family. When Jennie thought of this, she couldn't help but be angry. She couldn't resist arguing these things back to her mother.
"You..." Mother Kim was speechless.
"How can you talk to your mother like that?" Father Kim who had never spoken until now, was angry.
"Oh." Jennie lowered her head.
"Forget it, let that Lisa come in and ask him when he's marrying you." Mother Kim breathed out while she placed a hand over her chest.
"You're not grilling them anymore?" Taehyung was surprised and couldn't help but ask, "Does this mean you approve?"
"Your sister has already been taken..." Mother Kim couldn't help but shed a few tears. "What would be the point of investigating further? We can now only hope that he's a responsible man. Just be good to your sister when you pay the dowry."
"Mom..." Taehyung was speechless; did his mother just push the cost of the dowry to him?
Jennie had never doubted her mother's love for her, but the generation gap, educational gap, and their different personalities doomed them to never see eye to eye. Every time her mother cries, Jennie would feel extremely sad and guilty. Even when she clearly did nothing wrong, her mother would always attack her heart by shedding tears.
