"Amberheart!" Mousepelt shrieked. She spun around and ran to her friend's bleeding body. Silversol was still fighting for her life, yowling and hissing her defiance. Foxtail and Ravenclaw standing in speechless shock on either side of Mousepelt. "No!"
The brown she-cat sobbed as she shoved her muzzle into her golden friend.
Foxtail stumbled until he fell on his flank. Ravenclaw lowered his head sadly, his tail dropping.
"Mouse! Let's go play!"
"I'm gonna catch all the birds in the garden this time!"
"It's okay, Mouse, maybe Nofurs just don't like fresh prey."
"This stupid collar itches! I don't want it!"
"Be lucky you got one! Where's my collar?"
Memories flooded in to Mousepelt's mind. Everything they had done together was returning to the brown she-cats mind. Her and Amber as kits, not having a care in the world. Nothing to fear, no Clan to feed, no Silversol to kill. Everything was quiet and kind.
Now, everything was gone. No more play fighting, no more talking. It was gone. Everything Mousepelt knew was gone. Mousepelt would never go back to Clans, Ravenclaw and her would never see each other again, and Amberheart was dead.
Sudden movement made Mousepelt stop. She drew her head away from Amberheart to see she was breathing a purring weak with laughter.
"Please Mousepelt," Amberheart panted, "you think you can get rid of me that easily?"
"Amberheart!" Mousepelt exclaimed, the clouds seeming to lift and a new sun shining down, warming everything. "You're alive!"
"Of course I'm alive!" Amberheart purred. "I couldn't let you face Silversol alone."
Speaking of the dying she-cat, her yowls still filled the air. Mousepelt and Amberheart stood, both facing the Dark Forest cat. Her yellow green eyes glaring up at the two as they nearest.
With a nod, born Mousepelt and Amberheart unsheathed their claws. They raised their paws and slashed down on the white cat. Ending it. The gagging ceased. And Silversol vanished to nothing.
"Silversol is dead!" A Dark Forest cat cried out. "Retreat!"
All the Dark Forest turned tail and bolted off, their fear-scent following close behind.
Deathmask stopped and turned to glare up at the two warriors. His red eyes seeming to glow.
"This isn't over!" he shouted. "We'll be back! We always come back!" and with that, he was gone.
And we'll be ready... Mousepelt thought bitterly as she dug her claws into the ground.
