Kass couldn't sleep. It was late, nearly two in the morning. Not only was it hot, she was restless. Gem was sprawled on her back next to her, her leg halfway off the bed and arm strewn across Kass' abdomen. Kacc was snoring softly in the other bed and there was no sign of Em.
Kass gently eased herself off the bed, careful not to wake Gem. She dressed in a one piece bathing suit and grabbed a towel, hoping that swimming a few laps in the pool would tire her out enough to pass out. Or at least cool her off some. The AC wasn't helping.
The pool area was empty, everyone having gone to bed. She placed the towel on a chair and dove into the deep end. As she swam, her thoughts drifted from her mind, bringing her a sense of peace and calm. She wasn't sure how long she was out there, but it didn't seem to matter to her.
The little vacation she had with her friends was nice. They spent the day wandering the city, listening to the locals drone on about the Ogopogo that lived in a cave in Peachland. She was always fascinated by the stories of a sea monster and the locals here amused her with their tales.
The girls got ice cream, played beach volleyball with a group of cute guys and went out for dinner at a nice restaurant. Then spent the remainder of the night walking along the beach and talking. They even went to bed at a reasonable hour, and barely drunk at that.
Arti was right. They did need this. It was nice to have time to live slow and enjoy little moments. A chance to regroup and rest the mind, reset. It was vital.
Having enough of the pool, Kass pulled herself up on the edge and wrapped herself in her towel. And dried her body and hair as much as she could and padded her way back to her room.
When she went to reach for her room key, it was then that she noticed she had no pockets, and therefore left the key inside the room. And her friends were asleep. Heaving a big sigh, she went back downstairs to ask the receptionist for a new key.

The sound of a splash had Kody peeking out of his window. He saw Kass swimming in the pool, alone. After checking for signs of danger, he returned to his bed and resumed working. He was engrossed in reading over the latest contracts he had when there was a knock on his door.
Frowning at the late disturbance, he went to open it and saw Kass standing there, wrapped in a towel. His eyebrows lifted in surprise and he opened the door further to let her in.
"I'm sorry, I know it's super late," she said.
"I was up working anyway," he pointed at the laptop on the bed. "Is something wrong?"
"Of course you were," she laughed. "Um, I'm so embarrassed. I forgot my key card in the room and there's no one in reception til the morning. I figured since we were friends and all.."
"Yah, no problem. You can take the other bed if you want. I'll dim my lamp so you can sleep, okay?"
"I'm sorry." Kass stood awkwardly in the hall. "Where's Crash?"
"He and Em got here really late. They didn't want to bother you guys so they took the last room the hotel had. From what I heard, he's sleeping on the floor."
Kass nodded and fidgeted with her towel. Realizing she didn't have clothes, Kody grabbed a clean shirt from his bag and tossed it at her.
"You can wear that to sleep, unless you want to sleep in your wet bathing suit."
She gave him a sheepish smile and dashed to the bathroom to change, mumbling a thank you over her shoulder. Kody sighed and sat back on his bed, resuming his perusal of incoming documents being sent to him from his partners.
