The phone vibrated softly. Anna picked it up with a tentative 'Hello'.
"May I speak to Miss Analemma Wrenner?" a professional-sounding voice asked.
"Speaking." Anna replied.
"I am Julia Hawthorne, Personal Secretary to Richard West. Congratulations, Miss Wrenner, you have been selected by Ricky West to be his model of the season. Please report to The Lounge, Zephyr, by tomorrow morning at seven. You will need to bring a letter of parental consent, as I believe you are a minor yet. You may be expected to shift into an apartment near the Zephyr soon, and we shall arrange for all your requirements. Please feel free to contact me for any questions you may have."
"Thank you, Ms. Hawthorne. It will be good to receive a written mail or email regarding this, please. I believe you have my email id?"
"Yes, Ms. Wrenner. I'll email the details right away, have a nice day."
Almost immediately, Anna's phone vibrated again. Only this time, it was an email from Julia Hawthorne. Anna had already told her parents about the preliminary shoot, and they were proud of the way she had handled things. In fact, they had encouraged her, and had told her that she should give it a try if she was selected. Anna had agreed, because she'd felt sure that she most definitely wouldn't be. After all, she had checked only one box out of seven, and that was supposed to be the most coveted one in the first place. Little had she known that that was what would get her selected in the first place.
She thought it over for a minute, and made up her mind. She'd do a good job. She hadn't wanted to do it in the first place, but now that she was selected, she decided to give it her best shot. Then she opened the email, thanked Julia Hawthorne in reply, and went and spoke to her parents.
They were supportive of her decision, and they told her that they trusted her to see what was right for herself. They were happy upon her selection, and gave her the go ahead almost immediately. Once more, she thanked the universe for giving her such a perfect life. Her parents were very supportive and not pushy in the least. They had taught her to value her freedom and to exercise it responsibly.
