Chapter 5: Where is everyone?

The sound of birds chirping, and the smell of fresh rain slowly woke me up.
I was still cuddling Max and he was sound asleep.
I smiled looking at him, how peaceful he was and how cute he looked in his sleep. I let out a small sigh as I checked my phone: 5:55am
Jesus it's early I doubt David is even awake.
I looked back up at Max, his arms still wrapped around me.
I slowly moved my body on top of his, not in a sexual way because he's asleep, more of a cuddling way. I just wanted to be closer to him and I was pretty cold.
I moved my head closer to his and whispered in his ear.
"Hey Mr. Arsonist, wake up."
He made a small sound but was still asleep.
I gently played with his hair.
"Max, I'm bored wake up." I said in a louder voice. Max shot up really quick which forced my legs to fall on the sides of his thighs.
He sat up straight with his arms wrapped around my waist.
"What the fuck happened?!" Max shouted not even realizing I was on top of him.
"I um."
My eyes looked down to show him I was literally sitting on top of him.
Max's face went red, and his eyes widened.
I smiled looking at him all flustered while placing my arms around the back of his neck.
A small smile grew on his face as he relaxed.
I looked away and he instantly pulled me so close to him our chests were touching, I looked at him kind of shocked but then before I knew it his lips were on mine.
And just like that we were kissing. It was better than I thought it would be to say the least.
I felt his hands slowly start to slide down my waist.
I breathed in heavily feeling a bit nervous, we broke kiss and Max smirked at me and stared into my eyes. I felt him pull me close again and we continued kissing each other.
I moved my mouth from his lips to his neck and started kissing it. He breathed heavily when I reached his sweet spot.
Suddenly Max flipped me over, so he was on top of me.
"Two can play at that game, idiot." Max spoke before he started kissing my neck and slowly moving his hands along my waist.
I sighed in content running my fingers through his hair enjoying the attention from him.
He sat up again, his eyes scanning me, admiring my body lying in front of him, he gently dragged his hands along my thighs and back up to my waist just smiling at me softly.

Max's pov:
I ended up crawling forward, so I was on top again. I gently started kissing her deeply. She wrapped her arms around me kissing me back with the same passion.
She gently placed her hands on my cheeks. I broke kiss again.
"I like you y/n." I whispered while looking into her beautiful e/c eyes.
She smiled softly and whispered, "I like you too Max." Her lips gently pressed against mine again.
"GOOD MORNING CAMPERS!!"
David shouted cheery as fucking ever.
I jumped up so fast I fell off the bed.
Y/n looked shocked but then started giggling when she saw me on the floor frantically trying to catch my breath and calm down cause David scared the shit out of me.
I stood up slowly and looked at y/n. "That was... I don't know what to say right now." I said awkwardly my face still a bit red.
"Took you long enough to kiss me." y/n smirked. I smiled and sat back down on my bed putting my arm around her. She leaned her head on my shoulder and sighed.
"Can you get me some coffee please? I feel kind of drained all of a sudden if you know what I mean." y/n said in a tired and almost sad tone, I remember her mood switches. She could be having the best day ever and then boom depression for no reason.
"On it." I said, rubbing her back before standing up and walking over to my coffee machine.
I only use it when I don't feel like going to the Mess Hall, and I don't think I should leave y/n alone when she feels like this. She's a few weeks clean from self harm and I don't want her to relapse.
Suddenly Neil walked into the tent yawning.  "Morning guys." Neil said stopping to stare at y/n because she was sitting on my bed. "Uh what's going on?" Neil questioned looking at me for answers. Y/n and I looked at each other with slight panic in our eyes. I looked back to Neil who was still staring at me. "Nothing, Y/n felt sick last night so we switched beds, so she was closer to the entrance, I was not going to let her puke all over the tent." I lied easily.
"Oh, makes sense, you still feel sick y/n? {y/n shrugged}, anyway could I get some coffee? Nikki kept me up all night." Neil said, rubbing his eyes. "Fine, just go get your mug, Y/n is going to use my spare." I said with a sigh. Neil nodded and left the tent to go get his mug. "With lying skills like that you should have this whole camp looking like idiots." y/n whispered with a smirk. "Who said I don't already?" I smiled evilly.
y/n smirked and walked up to me. She grabbed the coffee mug from my hand that I just finished pouring and kissed my cheek, "Thank you lemon boy." She said softly before returning to my bed. I blushed, even though that was kinda cheesy, I didn't mind hearing it from her.
I couldn't believe after all this time she really does like me. I knew, well I accepted my feelings for her about three weeks ago and I never knew how to tell her, but I'm happy it happened when it did. Y/n has been the best thing to ever happen to me at this shitty camp, with her by my side and Nikki and Neil in my corner I feel like I could actually find a bit of happiness. But when summer ends... I'm not going home. I know that much.
I sat on Y/n's bed when I started to hear strange noises around the camp. I ignored them thinking it was just Nikki causing chaos.
The longer Neil was taking the more I just wanted to curl up with Y/n and hold her, but we both knew it was too risky. "Hey, I've been thinking." I said to y/n keeping my eyes on my coffee. "What about?" She said turning to face me. "So, we both know we like each other and whatever that was just happened." I spoke, trying my hardest to hide how nervous I was. "Are you trying to ask me to be your girlfriend?" Y/n said quietly, she put her coffee down and looked to me for an answer.

I got up and walked back to my bed and sat down next to her. "Yeah." I whispered, taking her hands in mine. She leaned in really close to me and whispered. "I thought you'd never ask." She glanced towards the tent flaps to see if anyone was close by before she placed a hand on my cheek and kissed me. My face went red but after a few seconds I closed my eyes and kissed her back.
We broke kiss and Y/n quickly wrapped her arms around me hugging me like she hadn't seen me in forever. "Hey what's going on?" I asked, concerned hugging her back tightly. "I just don't want to lose you... ever." y/n said holding back tears. "Hey, it's okay, why do you think you're going to lose me? What's going on?" I questioned.
"When camp is over... what then Max?" She mumbled through her tears.
I felt my heart drop, I couldn't bear the thought of losing her, especially because her parents might abandon her, who knows what foster home she'll end up in. "I promise you we will find a way out of here together." I felt a tear fall down my face thinking about being sent home to the monsters I call parents.
I hugged her tighter fighting my emotions. I might have told her things would be ok and we wouldn't lose each other but a part of me felt like I was going to lose her no matter how hard I try not to.
She calmed back down quickly and decided she was going to stay in bed most of the day because of how tired and depressed she felt.
A few minutes passed and I started to wonder what was taking Neil so long and why David hasn't come to ask us why we weren't in the Mess hall yet.
I pace back and forth with my hand supporting my chin while I let my thoughts wander. "Are you ok? You're pacing a lot." Y/n questioned staring at me with her tired and more dull than usual eyes. "Yeah, I'm fine just wondering what the hell is taking Neil so long and trying to throw together an escape plan." I said still pacing and scratching my hands.
"Escape plan? Look Max I would love to run away with you, but I don't have the energy, can we just wait until there is a week or even a few days left at camp before we run off and try to survive on our own?" I thought about what she said, and I knew she was right, there was no reason to rush. "I guess you're right, but I'm going to go see if Neil is okay... he's taking too long."
I walked over to Y/n and kissed her forehead softly. "Be right back, I promise." She smiled and nodded at me. I almost hesitated but I left the tent.
I started walking towards Neil and Nikki's tent. The camp felt stranger than usual. I shrugged it off as I entered Neil's tent. Neils coffee mug was broken on the ground and his bed was a mess. "Neil?" I questioned. Where were they?
I walked out of the empty tent and only then I noticed how quiet the camp was. Where was everyone?
I went straight to the Mess Hall knowing at least someone would be there, it was time for breakfast anyway. I bursted through the doors to find it empty. "HELLO? Neil? Nikki? God dammit. David?!" I shouted hearing nothing in response.
What the fuck is going on? Where did everyone go?
I searched the kitchen and the attic before leaving the Mess Hall.
I couldn't find anyone anywhere and it was starting to freak me out.
Maybe the wood scouts got them? But the only time they ever beat us was when... oh fuck. Daniel.
I started running back to my tent to get Y/n when I heard Nikki yell my name.
"Max!"
I looked towards the sound and stopped running. It was Nikki in a tree about 10 feet away from me. "Nikki? what the fuck? Where is everyone?" I asked running towards her.
Nikki jumped out of the tree and landed in front of me. "I can take you to them." she smiled. She was acting strange. Her clothes were still the same but she seemed calm... too calm. "Where. Is. Everyone." I demanded. "Oh Max, always so serious. Come on, I'll show you where David and Neil are." Nikki spoke calmly.
"I should get Y/n first..." I said looking towards my tent. "Don't worry about that... the others aren't far. Come with me." Nikki started walking into the woods. I hesitantly followed her.
We walked for what felt like forever. The further we went the less I recognized where we were, I don't think I've gone this far into the woods in years. "Nikki, you said they weren't far." I said as I stopped walking. Nikki turned to face me. "You're right..." She looked behind me as she spoke and then smiled like she was looking at someone. I was about to turn around when I felt something hit the back of my head, hard. Everything went black in an instant.
