1 what inspired the idea of your story?
I was running errands with my mom on the weekends (like I usually do), and the hopeless romantic bookworm in me wondered about all the different kind of meet-cutes I could have, specifically, what it would be like to meet a cute boy in a grocery store. The story was born from there! I still have the note in my notes app from when I wrote it down!
2 what is something you struggled constructing with your story?
In general and with this story, I always tend to know how I want my novel to start and how I want it to finish. Therefore, my biggest struggle (but also the fun part) is always figuring out everything else in between!
3 what did you enjoy writing most of your story?
I loved writing the relationship between Lacie and Trent. Their romance is rooted in friendship, which is what makes it so cute and relatable!
4 what's the overall response of your story from your readers?
I think the number one thing readers respond to is the grocery store meet-cute, especially, the fact that Lacie gets hit in the head with a box of cake mix (twice)! It's just so cliche and bizarre, but so much fun!
5 is your story a stand alone novel or a piece of a series ?
stand alone
6 what would you like your readers to take away from your story?
There are a lot of things I hope people take away from this story, but if I had to pick two: 1) Relationships can be rooted in friendship, filled with cuteness, and still be realistic! 2) (That being said ^) Sometimes things just don't work out no matter how much we want them to, and that's okay!
7 what advice would you provide to fellow writers, when it comes to focusing on their own story?
I wish I had something more to say, but honestly, my biggest piece of advice to any writer (even what I always tell myself) is: Always write for you! :)
8 Does your character share any similarities to you?
Yes! Lacie's love for vanilla cake mix stems from my own love of pretty much all things vanilla!
9 what is something about your story you believe would draw in new readers?
Aside from the grocery store meet-cute, I like to believe my story sheds a new light on college romances, in which I think it brings a lighthearted tone to the New Adult genre. Dating in college IS hard (I discussed and explored it in another novel of mine), but it doesn't always have to be dark and brooding and mysterious. I LOVE LOVE LOVE a sexy bad boy story just as much as the next person, but I also believe college romance can still be cutesy and PG-13 while still being meaningful! Which is why I wrote this story and is what I hope other people see too!
10 do you have any future projects?
I definitely have plans for new projects in the future, but as of right now, my main focus is self-publishing this story, Two Truths and a Lie, which I'm really excited about! Which is also why I'm really thankful you let me do this interview! I wanted to give people an inside look at the story since it started on Wattpad, and I plan to always honor that!
