BLOODLINES

AUTHOR: Richelle Mead

GENERE: Fantasy, paranormal

RATING: 3.5/5

(this review is kinda negative but THE REST OF THE SERIES IS SO PERFECT just get through this one and buckle up for the emotional roller coaster of your life)

Bloodlines is a spin off series of Vampire Academy, a series you have to read before starting in on this one. Really, you have no choice. You must read that series before starting in on this one.

Basically, it's about this annoying girl named Sydney. She's an Alchemist, a human that works to hide vampirey stuff from other humans in exchange for a long life and rarely getting sick, given to her by a lily tattoo on her cheek.

Alchemists have it ingrained in their heads that all vampires are pure evil and are unnatural, which is why Sydney is so rude to them. It's no excuse, but it's the way the book is.

Sydney is sent on an assignment to help protect Jillian Mastrano-Dragomir, the half sister of the queen. They have to protect Jill because people are trying to kill her. That's all you need to know for now.

Anyway, they go to a private school, and some things happen.

The books isn't very deeply set in the human world, like I assumed it would be, but it more focuses on the harsh life of being an Alchemist and Sydney's fear of them, and also her duty to them.

Believe me, the book was good, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have, with the main character being so unlikeable.

But yes. I mean, if you already read the Vampire Academy series, you have to read Bloodlines, because you'll physically be unable to resist yet another novel set in the same world as Rose Hathaway, the greatest Dhampir of all time.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!

Ok I'm just going to come out with it.

I hate Sydney.

I know it goes against something. Like, if you hate the main character, you hate the book, but that's not true.

Sydney gets on my nerves! I hate how she feels about magic.

ITS MAGIC

ITS MAGICAL!

Especially when Adrian was trying to heal her after all of that Strigoi crap, and she was just like No! No!

And when she confronted that teacher lady about the magic, I was so furious! How could she pass up such a divine opportunity like that?

But ever so rarely, I liked her.

RARELY.

I liked when she made Adrian happy, and when she helped him with the college things.

I liked her when she felt bad for Jill.

I liked her when she was nice to the vampires, despite her ideals that they're unnatural and evil. I guess that kind of makes her a good person, but meh.

But enough about Sydney.

I cant get over the fact that Jill died.

If I was Eddie I would constantly beat myself up about that. You know, it's surprising how strong he is. He made it through so many deaths and he still hasn't snapped.

Let's talk about Vampire hunters.

When Clarence first brought it up, I thought that this was going to be the surprise plot device.

Richelle Mead would make Clarence seem insane, but then he'd be right in the end.

I have to hand it to her, the Lee being former Strigoi thing I did not expect, and my theory about vampire hunters was proven wrong when Lee admitted to killing this girls, but there are still more books in the series.

I think the the issue of Vampire Hunters is going to re-appear later in the series. Of course it is, because why would it have been mentioned if it was useless information?

Keith.

KEITH.

I knew exactly what Keith's secret was from chapter two. The sentence that confirmed it was when Sydney said "Honestly, I would've paid with my own money to save me from sleeping under the same roof as Keith Darnell."

I initially thought he'd done it to Zoey, since Sydney only briefly mentioned Carly, and that she didn't want Zoey being alone with him, but it all made sense in the end.

I frickin hate Keith. A lot more than I hate Sydney.

And I hate her dad. He's such a buttmunch.
