GRACEFULLY GRAYSON

GENRE: FICTION

AUTHOR: AMI POLONSKY

RATING: 4/5

This book is all about Grayson, a sixth grader who is trans. I think that's the right word. Basically, Grayson is technically a boy, but she feels like a girl on the inside. So one day, Grayson decides to try out as the lead role in the school play, who happens to be a female.

As you can imagine, this causes a HUGE controversy. Her guardians are mad, the kids are calling her Gracie, (which she doesnt like) and everyone is freaking out.

But the plot is more than that, it's a good, short little story about self discovery, accepting yourself, and being who you really are.

To me, it feels like a contemperary, but some people rate it as children's and middle grade's, just because Grayson's in middle school, but I think that it's suitable for a wide range of readers, and it's just a really good book. It makes you feel the feels. Good and bad.

This is one of my favorite comtemporaries.

It has moments where you'll shed a few tears, moments when you'll feel your face heat up along with Grayson's and most importantly, moments that make you think.

I'm really upset about that girl. You know, the one Grayson used to hang out with and go to the thrift shop with, but then she ditched her to go hang out with the popular girls. Ooh. I wanted to stab her. And the worst thing was, she never redeemed herself for me.

Thank god for Paige and the other people in the play. I think It was fun to imagine Grayson getting her hair braided, but OH MY GOSH.

I absolutely hated the part when Grayson had to take her sweatshirt off and show Paige's mom his heart shirt. I DIED.

I don't know about yall, but I skipped the entire play dialogue. It was pointless to me.
