This book is high fantasy. There's a lot of new terms and powers you have to learn about, so I'll try to brief them out really quick. STAY WITH ME! The summary is after the briefing.

Dhampir: Half human half *Moroi. They guard the *Moroi because without them Dhampir would die out. Dhampir are like donkeys, they can't have children. Dhampir are stronger and faster than Moroi. Dhampir can go out into the sun and can survive on either regular food or blood.

*Moroi: Moroi are full vampires. They can't go into the sun for very long, they need blood more than human food, and they have magic over one of the 4 elements. Their bite is like a drug it feels very good to be bitten by a Moroi. They can weakly compel people.

Strigoi: Evil vampires. They have no souls, cannot enter holy ground, and cannot go into the sun whatsoever. Their bites are WAY more powerful than Moroi. Their compulsion is very strong.

There's some stuff I left out, but you pretty much get the big idea.

I really like this book a lot, but it can be boring at a few parts, but vey few.

This is all about Dhampir girl Rose Hathaway and her Moroi friend Vasilisa or Lissa. They have run away from the vampire academy, but are caught by expert guardian Dimitri Belikov and other staff of the academy.

Rose gets in big trouble and has to catch up in her guardian training with Dimitri every day. You've probably guessed already, but some Aria Montgomery stuff goes down, if you know what I'm saying.

Mostly the whole book is about three things: Lissa discovering her powers (She hasn't gotten hers yet) Rose and Lissa fending off mean girl Mia, and Rose struggling with her... affection for Dimitri.

The books in this series in order are Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, and Last Sacrifice.

The first book may take some pushing through, but I've read the second and it is fantastic. Richelle Mead is such a wonderful writer and I find it wonderful that she can write stories that vary in style with such a flow and I admire that about her.

I don't recommend his series for people who get bored easily or get tired after a certain number of books.

I freaking hate Mia. She just needs to be attacked by a Strigoi. How dare she have the audacity to try and blurt out Lissa's personal information at a PARTY? I was cheering when Rose punched her.

Just because Andre was mean to her doesn't mean she has to take her revenge on Lissa? Who's going to care? Andre? He's dead! I didn't mean to come off as insensitive but really.

And Lissa. Her power is AMAZING! Like, the best ever. It really sucks that she has to give away her soul to use it though.

I'm really uncomfortable with Dimitri. Not him in general, just his name.

My uncle's name is Dimitri and when the charmed necklace incident went down it was kind of disgusting to read because in my mind I kept picturing my uncle with Rose. 😣
