"What the hell is that?" Trinity snorts and we all look at Liam's tiny tamale. Leah and I break out in laughter because it looks funny.
"It's my tamale."
"Is that how small you like them?" Leah jokes and Liam growls. "First of all, don't imply I'm into men because I'm not. I should be asking you that question."
Leah holds up her huge tamale. "Go ahead, you already know the answer anyway."
I snort. "It looks cute, Liam. I will eat it."He frowns at me. "Now that just sounds wrong." He sets his raw tamale in the bowl where my mom has us put them before they cook. "I'm out of here."
Trinity stops him with a hand to the shoulder. "You leave and no tamales for you."
He frowns, grumbling but coming back, knowing well Trinity won't allow him to eat any until he contributes more work.
We are working flawlessly while my mom hits play on the Christmas songs.
Though I'm very happy, I miss Maxon.
He informed me yesterday that he made it to Louisiana safely. His mom and a few of her friends are spending Christmas together before he flies back to Boston the day after. He has a game and he can't miss. So I won't see him until after. Which means early next week.
I grimace. That's a while yet.
A hard knock sounds on the door and my siblings look at me. "I'll open it." I tell them and go wash my hands before opening.
A young man is setting down packages and comes back with a Christmas themed bouquet of flowers.
My heart immediately picks up it's pace knowing who's behind all this.
"Hi Miss." He gives me a grin. "These flowers are for Miss Madison Rosales."
"Yes, that's me." He hands them to me. "From Maxon Blake. The packages are yours too. I just need you to sign here."
I sign and he leaves with a wave. "Have a great day! Happy Holidays!"
"Happy Holidays!" I say, distracted by the gorgeous flowers. I don't know the name of them but they smell so good.
"Who was it?" Leah asks and I tell them to give me a hand bringing the boxes inside.
"What are these?" Liam asks.
"I'm assuming they're presents from Maxon."
"Sweet! Can I open–"
"No!" Leah swats his hand away. "Until tomorrow."He grumbles and they start bickering.
I move away from them and into the room I'm currently sharing with Trinity.
There's a red envelope.
I pick it up and open it.
Merry Christmas, Mi Amor.
I hope you loved the flowers. I also hope you're enjoying time away with your family.
Madison...I'm sorry. I'm sorry for keeping that away from you. I promise it won't happen again but I was so scared you would leave me and...it turned out to happen anyway. I understand you need time away to think but just know that I love you. I don't think there are words powerful enough to express what I feel. I love you, Mi Amor. I miss you and I will see you back in Boston after the game. Until then, happy holidays and Merry Christmas. From me to your family.
Love,
Maxon
PS. I really hope you're siblings like my gifts. They were picked with all of them in mind–though Trinity was a bit tough to search for. Don't tell her that.
Tears are streaming down my eyes.
Things will work out with Maxon and I.
I just know it.
He would never do anything to hurt me.
That stubborn doubt in my head just has to understand that.
