Power. Every man wants it, craves some semblance of it. Many men have gone to war over it, killed for it. Power should be shared, brought together through like mindedness and strength. Or else even the purest of hearts will be consumed, as I would soon discover.

The rain poured down my face as I screamed, blood covering the hand that wrapped around my throat. Josh had his arms wrapped around me, one arm across my chest, the other wrapped protectively around my belly.

I could hear Josh yelling over me, hear the pain in his voice, feel the warm blood from his neck run down my back. My legs gave out from under me, falling to the wet ground with Josh still holding me.

What had I done?

24 hours earlier

Josh, Davina, and I were cuddled up together on Davina's bed. "So I'm going to die tonight?"

I shook my head, my eyes hard. "Yes, but you'll come back, remember?"

I had let Josh and Davina read some of the journal. Only the current events. The three of them had been working all night to try to find a different way for the harvest.

I had come up with a plan for Davina to cast a spell that would only let the harvest girls come back. Much like the body trapping spell they used on Celeste.

The only problem left is how they were going to make Sophie an elder without using Ester. "Wait guys. What if we used Celeste's body?" We looked at each other, thoughts rolling through our heads. Davina's face split into a smile.

"That's it, Josh. We can consecrate Celeste instead of Ester, this could work!" Davina bounced onto her knees, the blankets falling to the ground. Relief flowed through my body; I was happy that plans were working now that I had help.

That relief was short lived when Davina started coughing. Josh shot up reaching out for her but stopping when she threw up copious amount of dirt all over the bed.

I shouted for Marcel who came speeding in moments later. He paused in the doorway, eyes wide. She continued to vomit the dirt as an earthquake shook the quarter, the first of many. "What the bloody hell is happening to her?" Rebekah demand from behind Klaus.

I made my way to the study, once Davina was resting in bed, with Josh watching her. Sophie was there explaining why they needed to complete the harvest.

"It's tearing her apart. And it will take us down with it." I stopped placing my hands on my hips.

"You can't complete the harvest even if you wanted to Sophie." Everyone's heads turned to me. Sophie paled.

"What does she mean?" Marcel questioned.

"An elder is needed to perform the ritual, but Hayley killed the last one." I shrugged my shoulders carelessly.

"She wanted to kill me. What did you expect me to do?"

Sophie glared at me. Another earthquake shook the ground. I released a defeated sigh. "Davina said you'll need to concentrate a powerful witch. I happen to know of one." I glanced at Elijah, feeling slightly bad for him.

"Celeste Dubois."

Elijah stared at her with surprise. "Absolutely not."

Sophie nodded her head, ignoring him. "I can start as soon as I have her body."

Elijah once again protested standing from the desk, making his way over to me. "This needs to happen Elijah. I won't lose Davina because of some stupid outdated sacrifice, not if I can help it."
