Blasters fired all around her, but Rey couldn't do anything to stop them. She was back at the Resistance base with Poe and Finn, scrambling for cover as TIE fighters ripped through the air behind them and fired again and again, running them down. If only they could get to the cave in time. A TIE case around again, and this time, they couldn't outrun it. Rey heard a scream behind her, Finn's terrified yell as he turned back, explosions as all the shots but one sent sprays of black sand into the air.
Rey bolted awake. The Resistance! How long had it been since she'd left to go on her undercover mission? She had no way of contacting them to let them know she was alright, no way of telling them how much she knew or helping defend them from the First Order. But she had to find them, had to help them. There was no doubt in Rey's mind they were about to be in real danger.
Rey stole softly out of bed and grabbed a robe, pulling it on over her pajamas as she padded down the hall to Ben's room, not bothering to push the hood back. She tapped tentatively on his door, aware how much he hated being woken up in the middle of the night. But this was an emergency.
"Ben?" She knocked again. No sound came from inside the room. She turned the doorknob and was surprised to see by the glow of lava through the window that Ben was not in his bed. Where could he be?
Rey heard a sound down the hall, a voice and the static of a hologram. The First Order must have contacted him and he took it downstairs so as not to make too much noise. Rey shut Ben's door and descended the stairs to the first level of the castle, following the sound. She was about to enter the room when a few words from the sender of the hologram caught her ear.
"We're zeroing in on the Resistance base as we speak Supreme Leader," said Hux. Rey pushed the door open a few inches to listen better. "You and your apprentice should come."
"We're busy training," Ben said curtly. Rey could see not much but the back of his head from her shadowy position.
"Well maybe it's time you put some of your training to the test," Hux retorted. "You have a responsibility to the First Order. You can't put it all off for some girl."

Ben bristled. "How close are you to the base?"
"We'll arrive in twenty hours, standard time."
"I will discuss it with her."
"Ren! You'd better-" Ben shut him off, plunging himself in darkness. Rey crept away from the door and went back to bed.
