The Red wolf is the rarest of its kind, they were nearly considered extinct by the mid-1900s. A genetic study suggests that they where hybrid species between a gray wolf and coyotes. But later discover that they were indeed a totally different species altogether.

They live off land throughout the Southeast, on into the north to the Ohio River Valley, and Southeastern Missouri. They are found in highest numbers in river forest and swamps of the Southeastern United States. Northeastern North Carolina red wolves rang from agricultural lands to forest/wetland mosaics covered by forest pine and evergreen shrubs.

A wolf pack usually consent of family of five to eight with two adults and their young. The breeding pairs likely the oldest, largest, and strongest wolves in the pack. They are known as the dominant wolves and are uselessly the only ones that can have pups. Any wolf can become dominant, to do so it must find an unoccupied territory and a member of the opposite sex. Or, rarely it can move into a pack with a missing dominant and take its place or kill the dominant wolf and take possession of its mate.

Red Wolfs are nocturnal, hunting alone or in small packs. They are shy and secretive keeping to them self's and their clan. They communicate by marking there surrounding with their sent, vocalizations, facial expression, and body language. The dominant male and female are in charge of the pack, to let the others know this they hold their teals high and stand tall. The others show submissive treats holding there teals down and lowing there bodies while pawing at the more dominant wolves.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the Red wolf were Cherokee Mythology. Known as wa'ya, said to be the companion of Kana'ti the hunter and father of the Wolf Clan. Its red color symbolized the color of war, fear, and love. Cherokees avoided killing Red wolfs for fear that the packs mate would kill them out of vengeance.

We are not much different then them our pack being rarest of our kind. We are wolfs of love, war and fear. We spend most our lives looking for our mates the other half loving them cherishing them and spending all our time with them. Our young come in groups the most being four vary rarely are we born singer.

I was one of them rare occasion, my mother died while giving her live to me. I was raised by my father and six older brothers. While in the Red wolf pack pups would leave there families after two years of age we stuck with our family until males where sixteen and females where eighteen then we left to be on our own.

All of my brothers where over the age of sixteen leaving me behind with my father, but they would come back they couldn't just stay away. Because we are family after all.

My dad had told me that the day I left I would brake his heart. Little did I know how true those words where.

I stood looking at my reflection in a floor length mirror,

My dark hair was pulled up into a clip loose curls falling around my face. The dress I wear came to my mid-thigh, a little blue sun dress with spaghetti straps. No shoes, I loved to run barefooted feeling the ground beneath my feet. I guessed that was the wolf in me.

"Your beautiful" my fathers voice rung in my ears

I smile turning to him

"You think so"

"You look like your mother you know"

"You tell me all the time"

"You look like her a little more every day, are you ready"

"Yes" my smile fades "What was it like when you meet mom"

"I was out hunting, and I saw her standing all alone I knew I had to have her. There was no way I was going to go on without her."
