Maijima would like to think he knew Midoriya pretty well. Or, at least, he knew a different side to the kid that most people had yet to see. Ever since he'd met Hatsume, the two had been spending more and more time together, to the point where he spent a lot of his free time in his workshop with her. That was actually how they'd first met.
The boy had come in during lunch. Hatsume spent most of her lunches working on projects she came up with, so as her teacher, he just started eating his lunch at his desk. The boy had come in with lunch for the girl. At first, he felt bad for the kid; he wasn't the first one to try to bring the girl something to eat. It was kind of him though. However, succeeding where everyone else had failed, when he set down their lunch trays on a clean space away from all the chemicals and gadgets, Hatsume actually stopped what she was doing to join him.
Since then, he paid more attention to the kid; after all, it took a special kind of person to tame the one and only Hatsume Mei. Turns out, he didn't tame her at all, he just understood the girl. Maijima loved having him around.
The kid gave new ideas to his student, drawing out incredibly detailed designs for her and even dropping by often to help her build them. The best thing about it was that every time he was around, the explosions stopped. It wasn't like the things they were building couldn't explode, no, it was that he didn't let them.
He made sure safety features were installed on everything, adding bolts or rubber to prevent things from breaking apart or sparking. When Hatsume knocked something over, he'd catch it and put it back without a second thought. Accidents were pretty much nonexistent while he was around.
Even better, unlike when he tries to fix something on one of her machines, Izuku is allowed to touch whatever he wants. She doesn't slap his hand away or threaten him with a screwdriver. As a matter of fact, Hatsume's given him inventions that didn't work the first time she made them, and he's fixed the problem for her. Maijima would give anything to have the kid in his class as a permanent resident.
The real seller was the fact that the kid loved plants. He'd put them up all over the place but between teaching and his lack of knowledge on the oxygen givers, they just kept dying. Midoriya had noticed by his 3rd trip to their lab after school. The kid had taken to taking care of them. He watered them and moved them around the room to places where they would get the amount of sunlight they needed. He gave them special soil and vitamins and now his precious plants were thriving.
The little bush had even given him some new ones! He had everything from herbs to roses. His favorite was either the mint or rosemary plant; they smelled so good! He'd asked the kid if he'd be interested in starting a garden where his precious plants wouldn't be in danger of death from explosion. He'd said yes!
Nezu had made them a little greenhouse on the roof that they would often catch each other in the early mornings before school started. It was his favorite place in the school, and he could tell the kid liked it a lot too. Also, it was nice to be able to take fresh plums and strawberries with him for his students.
So, after everything, he liked to think he knew Midoriya; then this happened. He kept searching through their interactions in his mind, trying to find out how he missed all the signs. Learning about all the things that had happened to the kid was sickening. Forget the kid, that was HIS kid! Society itself had hurt his kid!
He was still angry when the clips started back up again.
Dear Notebook, All Might's entrance for our hero class was actually kinda funny. He looked so stiff I was worried he'd cramp up and collapse.
The room cracked up.
"It's true! Why the heck did you walk like that?!" Mina called out while laughing.
