"Okay. I have time," I said.
"Okay. I just wanted to know what's going on. Why'd you cheat on me?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. But Sam I'm so sorry. I was really stupid. You're the one I want to be with."
"I believe you, but I don't want to get hurt again. Apologizing doesn't always help everything. It's over. I'm sorry." Then he walked away, leaving me standing there.
Mr. Schu was at school the next day. He told us a few people have to perform a song that means something to us. Two girls and two guys. Santana was first up. "I chose Concrete Angel because it's sad," she said. Then she started singing.
"She walks to school with the lunch she packed. Nobody knows what she's holding back. Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday. She hides the bruises with the linen and lace. Ohh. The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask. It's hard to see the pain behind the mask. Bearing the burden of a secret storm. Sometimes she wishes she was never born. Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone. In a world that she can't rise above. But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete angel," she sang.
When she was done singing she sat down and everyone clapped. She did really good. "Good job! Now is there a guy who would like to go?" Mr. Schu asked.
"I'll go," Sam volunteered. He stood up and walked to the front of the room. "I'm doing Apologize. It's not important why," he said. He was looking at me.
"I'm holding on your rope. Got me ten feet off the ground. And I'm hearing what you say but I just can't make a sound. You tell me that you love me then you go and cut me down. But wait. You tell me that you need me. Didn't think I'd turn around and say. That it's too late to apologize. It's too late. I said it's too late to apologize. It's too late. Yeahh," he sang.
I knew he was singing this because of me. He finished the song with a perfect ending. He sat down as I stood up. "Alright, I'm singing I Hope You Dance because my mom used to sing it to me when I was little before she died," I said.
"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder. You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger. May you never take one single breath for granted. God forbid love ever leave you empty handed. I hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean. Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens. Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance. And when you get the chance to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance. I hope you dance," I sang.
When the song finished I sat down and everyone clapped. Next Finn stood up. He's the last to sing. "Mr. Schu, I hope you don't mind if I don't really have a reason why the song is inspiring to me," he said.
"I guess that's okay."
"Okay, then I'm singing If Everyone Cared." The music started and he sang.
"From underneath the trees, we watch the sky. Confusing stars for satellites. I never dreamed that you'd be mine. But here we are, we're here tonight. Singing, Amen I, I'm alive. Singing, Amen I, I'm alive. If everyone cared and nobody cried. If everyone loved and nobody lied. If everyone shared and swallowed their pride. Then we'd see the day when nobody died," he sang.
Right when he sang the last line the bell rang. I walked out of the classroom with Quinn and we headed to my car. She's sleeping over today. I was about to open the door to walk outside when out of no where some guy grabbed me and started kissing me.
