Song: The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls
Aunt Jinny's POV
Through out the summer, I helped Charlotte pack her stuff and send it out to England. Box after box, rolls of tape to the address of her dorm. It's really setting in that she is really going to college and its overseas. In between packing, the kids and I also had fun during summer break. We went to beach, traveled though the state and took lots of photos.
It was one week before July ended and Charlotte was packing her last minuet carryon and her suitcase for her plane ride on August 1st. After that she came to join Joey Anna and I for dinner. We gathered hands and Charlotte said grace.
"Thank you Lord for this beautiful mean you have provided for us. Please let this meal nurish our bodies and make us strong. Please bless those who don't have this meal. Thank you. Amen." she said letting go of Joey and Anna's hands.
"One week life huh?" I said when silence hit.
"Yeah, one week left in the states for a while." she said putting mashed potatoes in her mouth. Joey and Anna ate just like Charlotte; a protein, starch and vegetable at dinner. She taught them so much. I wondered how I would be able to do what she did for them. I got lost in my thoughts when Charlotte spoke and brought me back to reality.
"Aunt Jinny? I said I had a surprise for you Joey and Anna." she said gathering her plate along with Joey and Anna's. She threw what was left on the glass plate into the trash can and started washing them.
"What is is?" I asked giving her my scrapped plate so that she could wash and I could dry.
"Come on, if I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise." she told me with a smile and handing me dishes. We finished in silence and put the leftovers away for tomorrows lunch.
"Can we have our surprise now Char? Please?" Anna asked. Joey was behind her giving the typical puppy dog face. I knew Charlotte coudn't say no to that, because I couldn't.
"Yes, you three can have it now. Follow me to the computer." she said walking out of the kitchen passed the living room and in to the room on the left across the hall from my bed room to the computer room. Charlotte sat at the computer chair, grabbed the mouse and clicked a bunch of stuff to see she pulled up something called Skype.
Charlotte's POV
I had already downloaded and set the Skype account. I clicked it open and showed Aunt Jinny, Joey and Anna.
"This is Skype. It's software that allows people to call each other on the computer. It can also video call. That means we can talk and see each other even though I'll be in UCL." I explained to them. Joey and Anna smiled from ear to ear and yelled 'Yay!' They both hugged and thanked me for the surprise. I showed Aunt Jinny how to use Skype and gave her all the information to log in after she would log off.
"Thank you Char. That was a great idea. Now we won't miss you as much." she told me giving me a hug.
"You're welcome. But remember, I'm 5 hours ahead, so you need to plan the video calls accordingly." I reminded her.
August 1-Leaving Day Charlotte's POV
Well, today was the day, leaving day. It was finally time to leave the states and go to England, to UCL. I had everything packed and sent to my dorm. My roommate was Angelica Erwine. I found her on Facebook and she answered my friend request. She was already there due to the fact that she lived closer to England than I did. Angelica was fromMullingar, Ireland. I asked her to get all the bedding stuff out to dress my bed, lay some clothes out and have a towel ready for me, and she is even going to get me at the airport. Of course we have never met, but I think she will be an awesome roommate.
"You ready?" Aunt Jinny asked leaning on the door frame. I just simply nodded, lifted my book bag onto my shoulders and grabbed the handle to my suitcase. I turn my head back to get one last look at half of a bare room, sighed and closed the door to my old life and moved forward into my new life.
The ride to the airport was filled with mixed emotions and thoughts. Joey, Anna and I talked about everything we could. I reminded them to behave while I was gone for Aunt Jinny, get all school work done before playing outside and to get good sleep at night. They knew the drill. Aunt Jinny parked the car and helped my with my luggage out of the trunk. She held onto it while I help Joey and Anna's hands into the airport. I checked in my luggage and headed for security check. This was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do; leave Joey and Anna. I have never been away from them, ever! I was always there and this is the first time we will be apart. A tear fell from my eye the more I thought about it.
"Don't cry Char." Joey said. "Anna and I should be crying, not you."
"I have never had to be apart from you two like this. I really don't want to leave you." I say are more tears start to form and fall. The two of them opened up their arms and I went down to hug them for as long and as tight as I could. The more I cried, the tighter I hugged them. They began to cry too. Then I felt another set of arms wrap around us, Aunt Jinny joined us and cried as well. One by one we all let go.
"You better get through security, you don't want to miss your flight." Aunt Jinny said with one last quick hug goodbye.
"Char," Anna said, "Have a good flight. I love you."
"I love you too kiddo." I told her as I hugged and kissed her cheek.
"Char," Joey said, "Have a safe flight. I have everything under control. I promised. I'm a man now, and I love you."
"I remember, you promised me. Keep that promise. I love you too bro." I said giving him the same hug and kiss good bye. I walked behind the rope and waited in line to go through security. I showed one security officer my passport, my drivers licence and my plane ticket, he lets me through and I put my bag on the moving table and take my shoes off. I look back at my siblings and Aunt Jinny before going through the metal detector. They are crying, but smiling and waving good by. I couldn't help it, I started to cry again. I got through the metal detecor, put my shoes on and grabbed my bag. One more look at my family and all I hear is "We love you Charlotte!" I give them a smile and a wave goodbye and didn't look back.
My flight wasn't boarding yet so I went and bought some snacks and a coffee before I heard over the intercom, "Flight 382 to London, England is now boarding. Please make you'r way to Gate C." I quickly paid the lady for my coffee and snacks and ran to Gate C. Again I showed my passport, drivers licence and plane ticket and boarded the plane. My seat was by the window, in the middle of the cabin. I settled in my seat and got situated for my seven and half hour flight. I take my phone out real quick to text Angelica that I had boarded the plane and take off was in 10min. She quickly replied saying 'Okay, text me when you land. I can't wait to finally meet you!' I smiled and turned off my phone so that the plane could take off. With my striped beanie on over my dark brown hair, I grabbed my white head phones and plugged the jack into the arm rest. Michael Buble's -Feelin Good come on. What a perfect song to fit my mood and situation right now. I looked out the window to see the airport runways go by faster and before I knew it, I was in the air, flying to London to start my new life.
