  (Asta's p.o.v.)

Final Selection had begun, and I am currently running toward the east. The goal we were all given was to survive a week in demon territory, so I first had to survive the night and wait until morning, when the demons can't do anything, so I could rest. For that reason, I ran to the eastern side of the mountain, where the sunlight would hit first. I carried my sword on my back, because I wasn't yet tall enough to carry it on my waist. Fortunately, I was use to the weight so it didn't throw me off balance. As I was running, I sensed a menacing Ki. I assumed it meant that a demon was nearby, so I drew my sword and went into my stance. After a few seconds, something came at me from above. I back out of the way, and after it hit the ground, I got to see for the first time what a demon was like. A man with horns, eyes which held nothing but hunger, and razor sharp teeth. I readied my sword and waited for the demon to make the first move. It charged at me with superhuman speed, I stepped aside as I raised my sword and used one of the forms Urokodaki taught me.

Water Breathing Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin!

I brought my sword down with great force as pillars of water came crashing down, and the blade completely severed the demon's head from it's body. The demon began turning to ash and fade from existence. I stood there, looking at what I did, though I still had myself on high alert. 'I killed it! I killed a demon! I finally have power! I can be of use to people!" I thought. I sheathed my sword and made once the demon completely disappeared, I continued to run for the east. For the rest of the night, I only fought and killed one more demon.

It was morning, and I was hungry after that long night. I decided to look around and see if there was anything on the mountain for me to eat. I eventually came up on a spring, so I knew where to find water. Along with  the spring, I found a couple of persimmon trees, so I found a food source for the rest of the exam. I walked over to pick a few of them, and just before I took a bite, I saw that someone was standing a few feet away from me. It was a girl about 13 years old. She had long pink hair, and light green eyes.

  (Imagine she's 6 years younger.)

I said to her, "Hi! What's up?" She got embarrassed easily and acted pretty shy. She replied nervously, "O-oh, umm, h-hello." I said, "You don't need to be shy. My name is Asta, who are you?" She responded shyly, "My name is Mitsuri Kanroji." I looked at the persimmons in my arm, and asked her, "You want some, Mitsuri?" She nodded and I tossed one to her. She caught it and replied, "Th-thank you." She took a bite out of the persimmon and she had a happy look on her face as she chewed, and it was honestly a very cute sight. We sat down and started chatting a little. We talked about why we wanted to become demon slayers. I told her my story, and she then told me her story.

"I was born among five siblings, and when I was very young, I displayed an unnatural strength through my muscles. It shocked even my mother. I even eat much more than an average person. I was seen as a freak because of this. I tried to change, I pretended to be weak and force myself to eat as much as a normal person so I could fit in more with other girls, even if it meant it effected my health and well-being. Shortly after making these changes, a boy who could've liked approached me, but I was doubtful about whether pretending to be someone else would work or not. We never saw each other again. Then, about three years ago, I met the leader of the demon slayer corps by chance. They told me to be myself, and embrace who I am. When I heard about the Demon Slayer Corps from them, I thought that maybe I would feel like I belong there, so I trained to the point that I would be able to join." She clearly opened up to me after I told her my story, she wasn't as shy as she was prior. I was sorry for her, she was considered an outcast by nearly everyone around her, it reminded me a bit of myself before I met Urokodaki. I said, "The leader was right, you shouldn't worry about what others think of you. What matters is what you think of yourself. So, don't be someone you're not." Mitsuri was in awe of what I said. Her expression turned into a warm smile and she said, "Thank you, Asta. That means a lot to me." "You're welcome, what do you say we pick a few more persimmons? Because once nightfall hits, we won't have time to eat." I said noticing that we talked the day away just about. She replied, "Sure, but I'll take a different tree, so you can have more." I smiled and nodded. We continued to eat our fill of persimmons, and Mitsuri picked a whole tree clean. As dusk was upon us, we said our goodbyes and wished one another to survive Final Selection. The first day of Final Selection had passed, and six more days left before we all head back down to the starting point.
